She said the businesswoman then created an account at Capital Bank and transferred the amount into that account.<\/p>\n<p>Following the bank moving into receivership, the AG said Mrs Papafio attempted to withdraw the money but was blocked from doing so.<\/p>\n<p>The charges filed include conspiracy to steal, citing Messrs Essien and Nettey acting together between October and November 2015 in Accra to steal GH\u00a2100 million belonging to Capital Bank.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is also the charge of abetment which cited Mr Odonkor assisting Mr Essien and Mr Nettey to dishonestly appropriate Capital Bank\u2019s GH\u00a2100 million between the same timeline.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The four were also cited for laundering\u00a0money between October and November in 2015 in Accra as they converted GH\u00a2100 million knowing it was proceeds of crime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO: Listen: Mahama goofed on shutdown of radio stations \u2013 Ursula Owusu-Ekuful<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Legal Representation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The State\u2019s legal team included Gloria Afua Akuffo, the Attorney-General, Yvonne Attakora Obuobisa, Director of Public Prosecution, Evelyn Keelson, a Chief State Attorney, Marina Appiah Opare, Chief State Attorney and Penina Asa Danquah also a chief state Attorney.<\/p>\n<p>Private legal practitioner Baffour Gyewu Bonsu Ashia held Thaddeus Sory\u2019s brief for Messrs Essien and Nettey.<\/p>\n<p>Justin Amenuvor represents Fitzgerald Donkor while Dr Dominic Ayine with Kobina Tahir Hammond representing\u00a0Kate Quartey-Papafio.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bail Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The defence lawyers made applications for self-recognizance bail saying their clients will cooperate with the court and show up for trial when needed.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Ayine further stated that the case will be \u201ca groundbreaking case\u201d since it\u2019s the first time stealing has occurred with the consent of the owner.<\/p>\n<p>Former Deputy-Attorney General\u00a0said the\u00a0GH\u00a2620 million described as liquidity support was a loan to be paid with interest. He further stated that Mrs Papafio engaged in legitimate banking transactions.<\/p>\n<p>He said nothing stops a lending institution from lending money to an individual for that same money to be invested into the bank.<\/p>\n<p>The AG did not oppose the application for bail. She, however, stated that adequate conditions should be set by the court.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO: Missing at sea: Police investigate disappearance of two<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Court rules<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Justice Kyei Baffour granted the defendants bail to the tune of\u00a0GH\u00a2200 million each.
