{"id":723609,"date":"2019-10-15T11:37:49","date_gmt":"2019-10-15T11:37:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/10\/15\/government-tracks-gcd-property-in-london\/"},"modified":"2019-10-15T11:37:49","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T11:37:49","slug":"government-tracks-gcd-property-in-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/10\/15\/government-tracks-gcd-property-in-london\/","title":{"rendered":"Government Tracks GCD Property In London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Government<br \/>\nhas tracked assets of the Ghana Consolidated Diamonds (GCD) Limited in London,<br \/>\nwhich have been neglected for several years.<\/p>\n<p>This<br \/>\nwas revealed by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at Akwatia in the<br \/>\nDenkyembour District in the Eastern Region on Sunday during a visit to the<br \/>\ncompany as part of his three days working tour of the region.<\/p>\n<p>This was<br \/>\nin response to a plea by the Chief of Akwatia, Osabarima Kofi Boateng III, to<br \/>\nthe President to help secure all assets belonging to the company following the<br \/>\ntakeover of the company from Great Consolidated Diamonds Ghana Limited (GCDGL),<br \/>\na subsidiary of the Jospong Group of companies.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nchief specifically mentioned the London property and Birim Court, another<br \/>\nproperty of the company in Accra. <\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nPresident indicated that the Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) had already made some<br \/>\nefforts with regard to the property in London.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe<br \/>\nstill own the property and have not lost it to anyone. They (SIGA) have been<br \/>\nable to identify it, and it is still a property of the company. It is the one<br \/>\nin Accra that, I believe, has become a subject of some litigation, but we will<br \/>\nlook into and seek redress,\u201d the President said, adding \u201cit may probably be<br \/>\nthat the lease on the property has not been renewed hence its current<br \/>\nsituation, but, as I have said, we will look into it critically, and get back<br \/>\nto you with the results.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The London Property<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The London<br \/>\nasset, according to <strong><em>DAILY GUIDE<\/em><\/strong> investigations, is a three-bedroom detached<br \/>\nproperty worth about \u00a31.5 million. <\/p>\n<p>Sources<br \/>\nsay that the government is in the processes of deciding whether to rent it out,<br \/>\nsell it or keep it. <\/p>\n<p>However,<br \/>\ninformation available indicates that <em>SIGA<\/em> and the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of GCD would keep the<br \/>\nproperty as an asset of the company.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Others Asset Discovered<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According<br \/>\nto sources, three guest houses belonging to the company have been tracked at<br \/>\nWinneba in the Central Region, while the Birim Court property the chief spoke<br \/>\nabout had also been tracked in Accra.<\/p>\n<p>However,<br \/>\ninformation available indicates that for the Accra property, the lease contract<br \/>\nbetween the owner of the property and GCD has expired. <\/p>\n<p>Even<br \/>\nthough SIGA has made moves to re-acquire it, sources say it is most likely the<br \/>\nowner will not give it back to them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Revival of the Company<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the President has assured<br \/>\nthe chiefs and people of Akwatia that government will ensure that the company<br \/>\nis revived to create more jobs for the people of Akwatia in the Denkyembour<br \/>\nDistrict of the Eastern Region of Ghana.
