Kwame Zu<\/strong><\/p>\n

KWAME ZU, the Ashanti Regional Secretary
\nof the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has suffered humiliation
\nafter he was allegedly beaten by some of his party\u2019s supporters in public.<\/p>\n

The incident happened at the Central
\nMosque in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region during the funeral rites of a certain
\nNDC member on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Kwame Zu was said to be boarding his vehicle
\nafter he had participated in the funeral rites when from nowhere, a group of
\nstoutly-built young men pounced on him violently without provocation.<\/p>\n

The blood-thirsty hoodlums, according to
\nan eyewitness report, subjected the hapless looking NDC scribe to severe
\nbeatings in the full glare of other mourners, who could only watch in awe.<\/p>\n

Isham Alhassan, the Ashanti Regional NDC
\nOrganizer, confirmed the beating of Kwame Zu by some goons on Kumasi-based Nhyira
\nFM<\/em><\/strong>, saying the matter was being handled by the police in Kumasi.<\/p>\n

Asawase Factor<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, what influenced the men to manhandle
\nKwame Zu is not immediately clear but there are rumours that Kwame Zu may have
\nbeen attacked because of the role he might have played in disqualifying a
\ncandidate in the Asawase by-election.<\/p>\n

Sources said the thugs were aggrieved
\nbecause their political idol, Masawudu Mubarick, was prevented from contesting
\nthe incumbent NDC MP, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, for the Asawase seat.<\/p>\n

The NDC thugs suspected that Kwame Zu
\nplayed \u2018pivotal roles\u2019 to crush the ambition of Masawudu Mubarick and have not
\nforgiven him for that.<\/p>\n

NDC Confirms
\nAttack<\/strong><\/p>\n

Isham Alhassan, the Ashanti Regional NDC
\nOrganizer, who sounded peeved over the attack of the NDC regional secretary,
\nsaid on Nhyira FM<\/em><\/strong> that \u201cKwame Zu has lodged an assault complaint case
\nwith the police.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not treat this assault case as
\na party matter; therefore, we are expecting the police to investigate the case
\nand quickly apprehend the suspects from their hideout to face the law,\u201d he
\nadded.<\/p>\n

According to him, Kwame Zu was about to
\nleave the funeral grounds when some people attacked him violently, adding that
\nsuch lawless acts should not be allowed in the country.<\/p>\n

NDC Man Claims
\nInnocence<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, one Shafi Ibrahim, known to
\nbe a dyed-in-the-wool NDC member in Kumasi, has vehemently denied knowing the
\npeople that manhandled the Ashanti Regional Secretary at the funeral grounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was at the Central Mosque on Sunday
\nbut I was not present when Kwame Zu was being beaten. I am surprised they are
\nsaying I was present and so I know his attackers,\u201d Shafi said on Nhyira
\nFM<\/em><\/strong> on Monday.<\/p>\n

According to him, he also heard reports
\nthat Kwame Zu had been beaten by some people and so he rushed to the place \u201cbut
\nby the time I arrived at the place, the guys had left and Kwame Zu was in his
\ncar.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shafi said anybody that would try to link him with the attack of Kwame Zu \u201cis not being fair because I don\u2019t know anything about his attack.\u201d<\/p>\n
