{"id":720371,"date":"2019-10-10T14:21:43","date_gmt":"2019-10-10T14:21:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/10\/10\/asamponghenes-killer-remanded-again\/"},"modified":"2019-10-10T14:21:43","modified_gmt":"2019-10-10T14:21:43","slug":"asamponghenes-killer-remanded-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/10\/10\/asamponghenes-killer-remanded-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Asamponghene\u2019s Killer Remanded Again &#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Anwar Sadat Mohammed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ANWAR<br \/>\nSADAT Mohammed aka \u2018Alhaji\u2019, the prime suspect in the killing of the<br \/>\nAsamponghene, Oheneba Kwadwo Aforduor, has been remanded into prisons custody.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect, who is also known as<br \/>\n\u2018Mallam\u2019, had been charged with murder and he would reappear before the same<br \/>\ncourt on October 17, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers of the suspect had pleaded<br \/>\nwith the court to grant him bail but the judge refused, explaining that the<br \/>\ncourt doesn\u2019t have the power to grant bail in a murder case, which is a first<br \/>\ndegree felony.<\/p>\n<p>Her Worship Portia Molly Ahafo-Salia<br \/>\ntherefore granted the wish of the prosecutor, Inspector, Edward Kwame Adade,<br \/>\nfor more time to investigate case by remanding the suspect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Asamponghene\u2019s Murder<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Asamponghene was found dead in<br \/>\nhis black Land cruiser vehicle on the outskirts of Ejura, in the Ashanti Region,<br \/>\non Sunday, August 18, this year.<\/p>\n<p>A gallon of petrol, matches and<br \/>\nother items, used in starting a fire, were found in the car, given indication that<br \/>\nhis killers had attempted to burn him and the car to clear evidence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prosecutor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Prosecutor, Inspector Edward<br \/>\nKwame Adade, speaking with journalists after the court proceedings, said the<br \/>\nsuspect was not cooperating with the investigations.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Alhaji was<br \/>\ninitially cooperating with the investigators after he was nabbed from Burkina<br \/>\nFaso, but he has suddenly stopped cooperating nowadays.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor also said the police<br \/>\nwere doing everything possible to arrest other people (suspects) in the murder<br \/>\ncase so that they would also face the law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust as we were able to arrest<br \/>\nSadat Mohammed from his hideout in Burkina Faso, so will the police arrest<br \/>\nanybody who is connected to the case,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sadat\u2019s Lawyer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lawyer Stephen Alewabah, who held<br \/>\nbrief for the substantive lawyer of Sadat, John Ndebugri, said they would<br \/>\nproceed to a higher court to get bail for their client.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, every offence can<br \/>\nbe granted bail in the country, adding that lower courts don\u2019t have the power<br \/>\nto grant bail in such matters so \u201cwe will proceed to a higher court and get<br \/>\nbail for him\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charged Crowd<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, there was huge number of<br \/>\npeople, possibly friends and family members of the late Asamponghene, who<br \/>\nstormed the court premises.<\/p>\n<p>The crowd, which seemed agitated, was<br \/>\nintermittently seen hurling insults and insinuations at Sadat, who was looking<br \/>\nvery quiet even after leaving the courtroom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FROM I.F.
