GHANA REALISED approximately
\n$785 million from products manufactured from cocoa including cocoa cake, cocoa
\nbutter and cocoa powder.<\/p>\n

The figure
\nrepresents over 27 per cent in terms of the top 10 performing non-traditional
\nexports in 2018.<\/p>\n

This came to
\nlight on Friday at the maiden edition of the African Cocoa and Chocolate Expo
\n2019 organized by the Ghana Expert Promotion Authority (GEPA) in Accra, with
\nsupport from Know Your Cocoa Foundation. <\/p>\n

The three-day
\nevent brought together industry leaders, emerging businesses and chocolate
\nlovers for knowledge sharing, networking and sampling. It was aimed at
\nshowcasing and celebrating the achievements of businesses in the cocoa value
\nchain under the theme: \u201cCelebrating innovation, motivation, consumption.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Director of Domestic
\nTrade at the Trade Ministry, Ntim Donkor, who spoke on behalf of the Deputy Minister,
\nCarlos Ahenkorah, said the cocoa industry had the potential to rake in billions
\nof dollars annually if the right attention was given to the sector.<\/p>\n

He said an estimated
\n800,000 farm households, particularly small holder farmers, derived at least 60
\nper cent of their annual income from cocoa alone, adding that the vision of the
\nexpo was aligned to the ministry\u2019s policy and activities which promoted
\nindustrialization and job creation.<\/p>\n

The Chief
\nExecutive Officer of Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Asabea Asare, expressed
\nthe hope that the expo would grow to become a truly African premier\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cThe aim is to
\ndeepen inter-African trade cooperation and synergies, particularly within the
\ncontext of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area
\nAgreement (AfCFTA). A series of fora has been planned to be held on the
\nsidelines of the exhibition aimed at exposing participants to the opportunities
\navailable in the cocoa value change and how to take advantage of them,\u201d she
\nadded.<\/p>\n
