Awulae Attibrukusu and other chiefs at the press conference<\/strong><\/p>\nThe chiefs of Upper and Lower Axim traditional areas in
\nthe Western Region have highly commended President Akufo-Addo for ensuring that
\nAxim had its fair share of the national cake which had eluded residents of the
\narea for years.\u00a0<\/p>\n
They mentioned the construction of the Axim Sea Defence
\nWall, fishing harbour, mini sports stadium and youth centre, including the
\nconstruction of an ultra-modern DVLA office, as some of the laudable projects
\nin the area.<\/p>\n
Besides, they mentioned the fixing of pavement blocks at
\nVictoria Park in front of Fort St. Anthonio by the current government, and a
\nhost of unprecedented ongoing developmental projects in the ancient fishing
\ntown.<\/p>\n
The chiefs have, therefore, pledged their support to the Akufo-Addo government since,
\naccording to them, it is ensuring that Axim becomes one of the most developed
\ntowns in the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n
At a joint news conference at Axim on Wednesday, the
\nParamount Chief of Lower Axim Traditional Area, Awulae Attibrukusu III,
\nappealed to the government to ignore calls from the chief of Nsein, near Axim,
\nto halt the construction of the fishing harbour because the area where the
\nproject was taking place belonged to his traditional area.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to Awulae Attibrukusu, the Chief of Nsein,
\nAwulae Agyefi Kwame, speaking at a Kundum festival in his area recently, \u2018falsely\u2019
\nclaimed among other things that the land on which the harbour project was being
\nconstructed, as well as the Fort St. Anthonio, was part of his area.<\/p>\n
However, the Lower Axim paramount chief said on
\nWednesday that \u201cwe the chiefs and people of Axim find the comments by the Nsein
\nchief distasteful and unfortunate. One would have expected that if Nana Nsein harboured
\nany grievances he would have ventilated them at the appropriate quarters, the
\ncourts.\u201d<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the land on which the Fort stood as
\nwell as the adjoining Victoria Park belonged to the Majoley family of Upper
\nAxim and that there were documents to support it. He asked the Nsein chiefs to
\ngo to court if they were indeed the owners of the land.<\/p>\n
He described all the ongoing projects in the Axim area
\nas viable economic projects that would be beneficial to Axim and all
\nsurrounding towns including Nsein.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He said \u201cour primary duty as chiefs should be the
\nwelfare of our people, and how to bring social and economic development in our
\nareas to help eradicate poverty.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Present were the acting Paramount Chief of Upper Axim, Nana Kwaw Tendele, and the Abusuapanyin of Majole family of Upper Axim, Panyinli Ayisi.<\/p>\n
