One hundred and ninety one personnel
\nof the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and Ghana Police Service (GPS) have
\ncompleted a three-week intensive counter terrorism training in Huhunya in the
\nEastern Region.<\/p>\n
The purpose of the first ever joint
\ntraining in counter terrorism, codenamed High Risk Operation Survival, was to
\nenhance the combat fitness, weapon handling, shooting skills, willpower, and
\nspeed among others, of participants. <\/p>\n
As part of the training, the participants
\nundertook lessons in Taekwondo (unarmed combat), advance weapon and firing
\ntechniques, tactical progression, vehicle search, and crowd control. The rest
\nare mountaineering, navigation exercise and rapid-response and rescue
\noperations on land and in water.<\/p>\n
The Head of Border Management,
\nCommissioner of Immigration (COI) Isaac Owusu Mensah who addressed the
\npersonnel at a closing ceremony on behalf of the Comptroller-General of
\nImmigration (CGI) commended participants for their determination, discipline
\nand display of professionalism throughout the training.<\/p>\n
He noted that the once peaceful West
\nAfrican sub region was gradually being consumed by terrorism and
\nterrorist-related activities, and that; Ghana could only hold itself in
\nreadiness to curb any terrorist attack. \u201cThe training for the two security
\nservices is really timely\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
COI Mensah reiterated the commitment
\nof management of GIS to decentralize the newly formed Rapid Response Unit
\nacross the regional commands to enable it respond quickly at any possible
\nterror attack at the frontiers.<\/p>\n
He expressed gratitude to the
\nInspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Police Command for the training given
\nto officers of the GIS. <\/p>\n
On his part, the Director-General of
\nOperations of the Police Service, COP\/Mr. Alex Mensah who spoke on behalf of
\nthe IGP urged the personnel to be alert, creative and analytical in confronting
\nthe menace of modern day crime that kept changing. \u201cYou are going out to serve
\na highly critical public that is expecting more innovative ways of handling
\nsecurity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
He admonished them to be disciplined
\nat all times, and asked them to read and inculcate in themselves the principles
