{"id":714881,"date":"2019-10-02T14:03:42","date_gmt":"2019-10-02T14:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/10\/02\/fabewoso-govts-take-over-of-akwatia-diamond-mine-justified-video\/"},"modified":"2019-10-02T14:03:42","modified_gmt":"2019-10-02T14:03:42","slug":"fabewoso-govts-take-over-of-akwatia-diamond-mine-justified-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/10\/02\/fabewoso-govts-take-over-of-akwatia-diamond-mine-justified-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Fabewoso: &#8216;Govt&#8217;s take-over of Akwatia Diamond Mine justified&#8217; [Video]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/maxresdefault-2-1024x576.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div data-io-article-url=\"https:\/\/www.adomonline.com\/fabewoso-govts-take-over-of-akwatia-diamond-mine-justified-video\/\">\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n                    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"td_youtube_player\" width=\"600\" height=\"560\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dLb1KjABTyQ?enablejsapi=1&amp;feature=oembed&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;vq=hd720\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>&#13;<br \/>\n                    &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;\n                <\/p>\n<p>A key advocate for the takeover of the Akwatia Diamond Mine from Jospong Group of Companies has said the government did not err in its action.<\/p>\n<p>According to Atik Mohammed, the government has been very magnanimous to management of the Great Consolidated Diamonds, formerly Ghana Consolidated Diamond Limited (GCDL), a subsidiary of the Jospong Group that failed to pay off their debt to the government.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: K\u2019dua police brutality: Father of suspect begs for interdicted officers <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Management of GCDL claims the government, through the Divestiture Implementation Committee (DIC), acted without following due process following the takeover.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Jospong argued that, the issue of the legality of the abrogation was before the law court and, therefore, it was wrong for the government to take-over the company.<\/p>\n<p>But, Mr Mohammed on Adom FM\u2019s anti-corruption show, <strong>Fabewoso <\/strong>said before the government abrogated the contract, DIC wrote to GCDL several times but they failed to respond.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: K\u2019dua police brutality: Father of suspect begs for interdicted officers <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He said GCDL also failed to fulfill its core mandate of paying $17 million to the DIC, as well as rehabilitating and refurbishing facilities at the mines to enhance production.<\/p>\n<p>He also doubted the supposed $20 million investment claim by Jospong when in fact \u201cthey couldn\u2019t raise the initial capital to fully takeover the mine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: Audio: Police react to K\u2019dua brutality<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t let us promote fraud in the name of promoting local entrepreneurship; government taking over the mine is in the interest of the State,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>But, the Chief Executive Officer of the Consumer Protection Agency, Kofi Kapito vehemently disagreed with Mr Mohammed\u2019s position.<\/p>\n<p>He said political witch-hunt of such nature had resulted in the collapse of very vibrant Ghanaian businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kapito said though Jospong had not fulfilled its part of the bargain, the government should have given them more time to raise the needed capital to operate the mine.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Watch video above<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>Source: Ghana|Adomonline.com|Adwoa Gyasiwaa Agyeman<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#13; &#13; &#13; &#13; A key advocate for the takeover of the Akwatia Diamond Mine from Jospong Group of Companies has said the government did not err in its action.
