Ignatius Baffour Awuah<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations,\u00a0Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, says climate change can have \u201csequential effects on the works that are being delivered on the job market.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said climate change issues
\nshould be addressed holistically since it could lead to loss of jobs.<\/p>\n

The minister\u2014speaking at the opening ceremony of the annual Ghana Industry
\nSafety Conference (GHISCON) organized by the Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of
\nCommerce and Industry (STCCI)\u2014pointed out that there is the need for companies to think ahead
\nand devise innovative and technological ways of doing things. He also called
\nfor strict adherence to safety issues which should be extended to the
\ncommunities.<\/p>\n

Kwasi Twum Addo\u2014Head of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE)\u00a0at the Ministry of Energy\u2014said the ministry was implementing a Climate Change Smart Energy
\nAction Plan (CC-SEAP).<\/p>\n

The plan sought to integrate energy
\nsector issues in the protocols into the country\u2019s energy sector activities.<\/p>\n

The action plan, he noted, is also
\naimed at minimizing greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector activities
\nthrough the introduction of cleaner fuels and reducing end use consumption.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgain, it is to enhance the resilience
\nof the energy sector to climate change by supporting a regime that ensures
\ncompliance of energy services providers to international climate change
\nprotocols,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Western Regional Minister,
\nKwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, commended STCCI for all its activities geared
\ntowards the growth of businesses in diverse ways.<\/p>\n

Mr. Ato Van-Ess, Chairman of STCCI,
\nsaid a number of activities undertaken by industry and the citizenry had
\nsignificant negative impact on the welfare of workers and the environment.<\/p>\n

The two-day conference was on the
\ntheme: \u201cClimate change and occupational health and safety\u201d.<\/p>\n
