William Ayamdo (right), Chief of the Army Staff<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>VICE-PRESIDENT<br \/>\nDr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on the military to redouble their intelligence<br \/>\ngathering and sharpen their readiness to neutralise any attack on the nation by<br \/>\nterrorists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur<br \/>\nsub-region is faced with the serious problem of terrorist activities as our neighbours<br \/>\nare presently battling jihadist movements and the threat is moving closer home,\u201d<br \/>\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>He<br \/>\nmade the remarks when he addressed soldiers during the general parade held by<br \/>\nthe Ghana Army as part of activities marking Army Week celebrations held at Teshie<br \/>\nin Accra. <\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\ncelebration was themed: \u201cGhana Army-Providing Security for National<br \/>\nDevelopment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He<br \/>\nsaid government would continue to work closely with the Military High Command<br \/>\nto ensure that their logistics and operational needs including equipment,<br \/>\nclothing and accommodation were adequately met and on time for both their internal<br \/>\nand external operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI<br \/>\ncan assure you that the Ghana Army would receive its fair share of the support<br \/>\nbeing provided by the government to the Ghana Armed Forces,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Government,<br \/>\nhe said, had embarked on projects in the areas of housing, provision of<br \/>\nequipment and training to ensure that the morale of troops and their dependents<br \/>\nalways remain high as they go about their duties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe<br \/>\nbarracks regeneration project embarked on by the government is ongoing and very<br \/>\nsoon your accommodation challenges will be a thing of the past,\u201d Dr. Bawumia<br \/>\nannounced.<\/p>\n<p>He<br \/>\nurged all troops to continue to work to promote cordial civil-military relations<br \/>\nin the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe<br \/>\nneed for good working relations with your sister security services and<br \/>\nintelligence bodies is very essential in times of terrorist threats in our<br \/>\nsub-region. There is no need to spend our energies attacking each other. When<br \/>\nterrorists attack, we need to be together, in the right frame of mind and posture,<br \/>\nto react appropriately,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>There<br \/>\nwas a display of foot and rifle drills by personnel on parade to show their<br \/>\nability to move and act as a team.<\/p>\n<p>Awards<br \/>\nwere given to two personnel for their show of professionalism in the discharge<br \/>\nof their duties.<\/p>\n<p>Warrant<br \/>\nOfficer Class One Peprah Moses Anane received an award for saving his life and<br \/>\nthe lives of other soldiers at Bundase, by locking a grenade from exploding<br \/>\nwithin five seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Corporal Afful Kwadwo Samuel also received an award for saving others after he was shot on the left arm at Alavanyo before seeking medical treatment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(lindatenyah@gmail)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>BY Linda TenyahAyettey<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vice-President Dr Bawumia presenting a plaque to Lance Bombadier Samuel Kojo Afful for his outstanding performance.
