{"id":711794,"date":"2019-09-27T17:34:03","date_gmt":"2019-09-27T17:34:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/09\/27\/poly-lecturers-banned-from-pamphlet-sales\/"},"modified":"2019-09-27T17:34:03","modified_gmt":"2019-09-27T17:34:03","slug":"poly-lecturers-banned-from-pamphlet-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/09\/27\/poly-lecturers-banned-from-pamphlet-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"Poly Lecturers Banned From Pamphlet Sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Prof Kwadwo Adinkra-Appiah<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>THE VICE chancellor of Sunyani<br \/>\nTechnical University (STU), Prof. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah has banned lecturers<br \/>\nfrom selling pamphlets on campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prof Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appaih<br \/>\nannounced the ban during a meeting he held with heads of departments of the<br \/>\ninstitution including the Student Representative Council (SRC) yesterday, on<br \/>\ndevelopmental projects to be embarked on in the university. He said the no<br \/>\nhandout policy was a directive from the National Accreditation Board to various<br \/>\nuniversities in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the no hand out policy had become necessary<br \/>\nbecause some lecturers were making handouts selling a pre-condition for<br \/>\nstudents passing their examinations. The National Accreditation Board which is<br \/>\nthe regulator of tertiary institutions has therefore written a directive that,<br \/>\nhenceforth, no lecturer should sell pamphlets to undergraduates. \u2018The students<br \/>\nmust be taught to learn the skills of research and not to be spoon-fed by the<br \/>\nselling of these handouts\u2019, he noted. <\/p>\n<p>The directive however, did not go<br \/>\ndown well with most students and lecturers when <strong><em>DAILY GUIDE<\/em><\/strong> spoke to them<br \/>\non the issue. A chat with some students from Hospitality and Tourism Department<br \/>\nof STU\u00a0\u00a0 indicated they were not happy<br \/>\nwith the intervention from the National Accreditation Board, since measures to enhance<br \/>\nresearch and learning are not in place. For instance, a student who gave his<br \/>\nname only as David said there were inadequate projectors and other teaching and<br \/>\nlearning materials to improve teaching and learning especially when class sizes<br \/>\nare large.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The pro-Vice Chancellor of STU, Justice<br \/>\nSolomon Korantwi-Barimah, in response, said lecturers as a result of the<br \/>\ndirective had been directed to use projectors to teach. Thus from this Monday,<br \/>\nall departments would receive new projectors to kick start power point<br \/>\npresentations\u2019. He further stated that management should have implemented the<br \/>\npolicy last year but due to certain issues, implementation delayed to this<br \/>\nyear.
