CAGED! Eric Kojo Duah<\/strong><\/p>\n

Six persons alleged to have aided Eric Kojo Dua in the gruesome murder of the two police officers in the Central Region have been discharged by a Kaneshie District Court in Accra.<\/p>\n

This follows the
\ndecision of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to drop the charges
\nlevelled against them. <\/p>\n

They include Isaac
\nAmissah, Ibrahim Zakaria, Isaac Mensa, Oblitey Commey, Victor Yire and Fatawu
\nAhmed. They were initially charged with conspiracy to commit crime in the
\nmurder of Sgt. Michael Dzamasi, a service driver, and L\/Cpl Awal Mohammed at a
\nplace called Big Apple at Buduburam, near Kasoa.<\/p>\n

The deceased policemen were personnel of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) detachment at Kasoa, and their deaths sparked public outrage.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n

New Charges<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following the call
\nby the prosecution for the discharge of the six men, the charge sheet and the
\nfacts of the case that were presented during the previous court sitting were
\nalso substituted.<\/p>\n

New Suspects<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new charges saw three new suspects\u2014all of whom are at
\nlarge\u2014as those who allegedly
\nconspired with Eric Kojo Dua to murder the two police officers.<\/p>\n

The new suspects
\nare Mike Anim, one Theophilus and another person who was only identified as
\nKay.<\/p>\n

Per the new charges,
\nKojo Dua is facing two counts of conspiracy to commit murder and another two
\ncounts of murder.<\/p>\n

The other three suspects at large are each facing two counts of conspiracy to commit murder.<\/p>\n

Latest Development<\/strong><\/p>\n

The prosecution
\nled by ASP Sylvester Asare told the court that they had to substitute the old
\ncharge sheet due to certain \u2018new developments\u2019 in the case.<\/p>\n

He stated that in
\nlight of the latest development, investigations are currently ongoing to
\napprehend the accomplices of Kojo Dua.<\/p>\n

He, therefore,
\npleaded with the court presided over by Rosemond Doodua Agyiri to remand Dua to
\nenable the police conduct further investigations.<\/p>\n

Order<\/strong><\/p>\n

The presiding magistrate
\nremanded the accused person in BNI custody, reminding him of his right to a
\nlawyer.<\/p>\n

Though this was
\nhis second appearance in court, he appeared to be struggling to engage a lawyer
\nto defend him.<\/p>\n

The presiding magistrate
\nasked the BNI officials to give the accused person the opportunity to speak
\nwith his lawyer, asking Dua to report to her at the next sitting if he was
\ndenied that right.<\/p>\n

The case was adjourned to October 9.<\/p>\n

Murder<\/strong><\/p>\n

The two police officers were killed
\non August 28 by suspected armed robbers at a place called Big Apple near Buduburam,
\nKasoa, in the Central Region. The two officers were said to be on Task Force duties
\non the Kasoa-Winneba highway when the main suspect, Kojo Dua, and the other
\nthree suspects on board an unregistered Toyota Camry blatantly ignored the
\nsignal of the officers to stop and sped off.<\/p>\n

The police
\nofficers chased the suspects and caught up with them a few metres away from
\nKAAF University at Old Block around the Buduburam-Aprah road where they asked
\nEric Dua to step out of the vehicle but he refused.<\/p>\n

An attempt by the
\npolice officers to apprehend the suspect led to a struggle between them and the
\naccused was said to have rushed to the vehicle and pulled out a gun shooting
\nthe late L\/Cpl Mohammed Awal in the left rib and on his left shoulder.<\/p>\n

Sgt. Dzamasi,
\nsensing danger, decided to run for his life but was also shot by Dua. <\/p>\n

He then managed
\nto seek refuge in a grocery store but Dua followed him to the store where he
\nshot him three more times in the head leading to his death.<\/p>\n

G\/L\/Cpl Awal
\nMohammed who sustained gunshot wounds was also pronounced dead shortly on
\narrival at the hospital.<\/p>\n

The other three suspects\u2014Mike Anim, Theophilus and Kay who were in the
\nvehicle with Dua\u2014sped off and later abandoned the vehicle at Kokrobite and absconded.<\/p>\n

A search
\nconducted in the vehicle led to discovery of a document regarding a registered
\npistol bearing the name of Kojo Dua.<\/p>\n

Revenge
\nMission<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kojo Duah was on the run after
\nthe deadly incident and was later arrested on the Senchi Bridge on Saturday, August
\n31, in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n

He was taken to the Akosombo
\nPolice Station after his arrest where he allegedly admitted to the murder of
\nSgt. Dzamesi.<\/p>\n

He is reported to have said he killed Sgt. Dzamesi out of revenge for the death of his mother because he was convinced that the deceased was responsible for it.<\/p>\n
