The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has denied claims that it is to blame for alleged revenue leakages at the Tema Port.<\/p>\n

In a statement signed by Head of Public Affairs, Jacqueline Avotri, EOCO explained that its workers are not stationed at the Tema Port neither are they part of the security agencies or revenue collectors operating directly at the Port.<\/p>\n

EOCO in the statement reiterated that its workers are stationed at their Regional Office in Tema and their core mandate is to monitor and investigate economic and organized crime.<\/p>\n

The Executive Secretary of the Public Service Workers Union Secretariat of the Trades Union Congress, Mr. Ken Tweneboah Koduah is reported in the Goldstreet Business newspaper as saying that the GRA\u2019s quest to ensure voluntary compliance of tax payment is being hampered by a number of security agencies including EOCO.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the Ports, fake documents are used to transact business. We know where those fake documents are printed, most people know and yet nobody is arresting [anyone]. We have BNI, National Security and EOCO at the Tema [Port], yet, these fake documents keep coming in, working through the system and our officers cannot really differentiate between genuine and fake documents which are being used to clear goods.The statement by Mr. Ken Tweneboah Koduah, Secretary of the Public Service Workers Union as it appeared in the newspaper attributing revenue leakages at the Tema Port to EOCO is therefore false.\u201d Mr Koduah said”.<\/p>\n
