The Kotoka<br \/>\nInternational Airport (KIA) Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service<br \/>\n(GIS) within a week has received a total of twenty two deportees from Saudi<br \/>\nArabia on board Ethiopian Airlines Flight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The deportees, comprising a male and 21<br \/>\nfemales and aged between 21-38 years were working as domestic helps and a<br \/>\ndriver, but were deported for staying illegally. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">They arrived with Travel Certificates issued<br \/>\nby Ghana\u2019s Embassy in Saudi Arabia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI)<br \/>\nBarbara Sam, Public Relations Officer, GIS-KIA told the GNA that, the<br \/>\ndeportees, who are mostly Primary School, Junior High School and Senior High<br \/>\nSchool leavers, were in Saudi Arabia since 2015 and 2017. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">She said according to them, they were<br \/>\ndetained at a Deportation Centre in Saudi Arabia close to four months before<br \/>\ntheir onward deportation to Ghana. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Regional distribution of the Deportees are;<br \/>\none each from Oti, Volta, Bono, Western, Central and Upper East, six each from<br \/>\nthe Greater Accra and the Northern, and four from the Ashanti Region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">&#8220;Narrating their ordeal in an<br \/>\ninterview, some of the ladies said their passports were seized by their hosts<br \/>\nupon arrival claiming they owned it because they paid for it, and sometimes they<br \/>\nwere made to over work 24 hours&#8221;, she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">ACI Sam said the deportees said they<br \/>\nsometimes accused them wrongly for crime they did not commit, while some were<br \/>\nassaulted, abused sexually and fed once a day with bread, resulting in some<br \/>\ncomplaints of severe stomach pains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">One of the ladies, aged 25 also narrating<br \/>\nher ordeal amidst tears said, she had to escape whilst her host was out of town<br \/>\nto seek refuge at Ghana\u2019s Embassy in Saudi Arabia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">She advised\u00a0<br \/>\nthe youth\u00a0 to stay in the country<br \/>\nand work and not to be overly interested in traveling, particularly to the Gulf<br \/>\nStates, because some don\u2019t even live to tell their stories. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">She also advised the public to beware of<br \/>\n&#8220;connection men, who would lure them into the \u201cseeming juicy deals\u201d,<br \/>\nmentioning huge sums of monies as the monthly pay, which is not the true case<br \/>\nwhen they get there.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">GNA<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patience Gbeze, GNA Accra, Sept. 11, GNA &#8211;
