Funkoe (W\/R), Sept. 11, GNA – Mrs Gifty
\nEugenia Kusi, the Deputy Western Regional Minister, said government was working
\nto improve on the literacy rate of the country through the implementation of
\nthe Free Senior High School Policy, among other interventions.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We are not leaving anybody behind when
\nit comes to access to education, at least to the senior high level, and for me
\nthe joy of seeing more girls in school because of this policy is
\noverwhelming,” she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

She, therefore, encouraged parents and key
\nstakeholders in education to adequately provide the needs of their children to
\nensure a smooth transition from the basic to the senior level.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mrs Kusi said this when she inaugurated a
\nJunior High School (JHS) Block for the Catholic School at Funkoe in the Ahanta
\nWest Municipality. <\/span><\/p>\n

She said the Government would work within
\nits powers to improve upon the quality of lives of Ghanaians.<\/span><\/p>\n

The students of Funkoe Catholic School,
\nhitherto, studied in an uncompleted community centre, which made teaching and
\nlearning difficult, hence, the school block, with sanitary facilities, has come
\nas a great relief to the pupils and teachers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mrs kusi was of the firm believe that
\nthrough free senior high education, many women, who would otherwise have stayed
\nat home, could be educated to enable them to take better care of their families
\nand society in general.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mrs Henrietta Mary Eyison, the Ahanta West
\nMunicipal Chief Executive, said improving the quality of education in all the
\ncommunities within the Municipality was high on the Assembly\u2019s agenda.<\/span><\/p>\n

She mentioned the provision of Kindergarten
\nblocks for some communities, fixing of the Sankor educational infrastructure
\nand building of extra facilities for Baidoo Bonsu Senior High as some
\ninterventions taken to advance education in the area.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I have been a teacher for 46 years of
\nmy life and I believe in education and its positive effects on the individual
\nand society, hence my commitment to reducing teenage pregnancies and school drop-out
\nrate through quality education that is accessible to all”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Mark Adobah Adaketey, the Municipal
\nDirector of Education, said the various interventions by the Assembly were
\nyielding positive results evidenced by the results of the Basic Education and
\nWest African Secondary School certificate examinations.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We are recording 90 per cent pass rate
\nin our examinations,” he added.<\/span><\/p>\n
