A
\nNEW ANTI-money laundering and terrorist financing report published by
\nSwiss-based Basel Institute of Governance has seen Ghana moving up six places.<\/p>\n

Last
\nyear, Ghana ranked 66th<\/sup>\u00a0out of 125 countries in
\nthe Anti Money Laundering Index.\u00a0 But with a score of 5.29, the country
\njumped to 60th<\/sup>\u00a0position in the latest rankings released by
\nthe Basel Institute of Governance.<\/p>\n

The
\nBasel Anti-Money Laundering Index is an independent annual ranking that
\nassesses the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing around the world.<\/p>\n

The
\nlatest rankings put Ghana ahead of notable countries such as United Arab
\nEmirates, India, Turkey and China.<\/p>\n

The
\nBasel anti-money laundering Index measures the risk of money laundering and
\nterrorist financing in countries using data from publicly available sources
\nsuch as the Financial Action Task Force, Transparency International, World Bank
\nand the World Economic Forum.<\/p>\n

The
\nindex relies heavily on perception-based indicators such as the Transparency
\nInternational Corruption Perceptions Index.<\/p>\n

In
\ncontrast to financial risk models based purely on statistical calculations, the
\nBasel AML Index evaluates structural factors by quantifying regulatory, legal,
\npolitical and financial indicators that influence countries\u2019 vulnerability to
\nmoney laundering and terrorist financing. <\/p>\n
