Sheila Kwaow<\/strong><\/p>\nA woman, identified as Sheila Kwaow popularly known as \u2018Mother\u2019 has been arrested by the Police at Nkurakan in the Eastern Region for defecating at a Police Station.<\/p>\n
The 30-year-old suspect who is a hairdresser was arrested
\nFriday, September 6, 2019. She was caught red-handed after a Police officer
\nlaid surveillance at dawn.<\/p>\n
Sheila, notorious for the practice has turned the compound of
\nthe Police station into a place of convenience where she either defecates into
\na polythene bag and drops it or defecates in the open at dawn.<\/p>\n
The suspect stays in a house without a toilet facility adjacent
\nto the Police Station and was suspected by the Police officers. She however angrily
\ndenied being responsible and rained insults on the officers whenever she was
\nconfronted hence the surveillance leading to her arrest in the act.<\/p>\n
According to the local Police, they have been sweeping human
\nfaeces almost every day. Sheilla\u2019s arrest according to them should serve as a
\ndeterrent to others. <\/p>\n
It is estimated that close to Nineteen percent (19%) of Ghana\u2019s
\ntotal population practice open defection daily translating into one out of
\nevery five people practicing it.<\/p>\n
Ghana reportedly loses an average of $79 million annually to
\nopen defecation and is classified among 34 countries with the highest open
