BETWAY GHANA, a
\nleading online sports betting company, has called for stringent regulations in
\nGhana\u2019s mobile money industry, especially in the sports betting industry, to
\ncheck the perpetration of certain unlawful practices. <\/p>\n

According to the
\ncompany, a well-regulated mobile money sector would enhance the rapid growth of
\ne-Commerce in Ghana and boost the confidence of key players in the sector. <\/p>\n

Dr. Kweku Ainuson,
\ndirector and company secretary of Betway Ghana, disclosed this when he joined
\nother panelists at the Mobex Africa Tech Expo to discuss mobile money and its
\nregulations in Ghana\u2019s e-Commerce industry.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ainuson mentioned
\nmeasures being put in place by his outfit to monitor and supervise the betting
\nlandscape against vices such as money laundering and underage betting.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cWe have
\nadopted a zero tolerance to money laundering or any financial crime. A
\ncompliance officer has been appointed and we are offering extensive training to
\nstaff on the company\u2019s view, spotting and reporting of such activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Ainuson
\nfurther touched on sanctions and measures that were in place to help monitor
\nand minimise any such activities. <\/p>\n

He said through
\nsuch measures, relationships with players who were suspected of money
\nlaundering or any financial crime would be terminated.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuch suspicions
\nwill be investigated thoroughly and actions taken accordingly. Guilty parties
\nwould be reported to the appropriate law enforcement organisations\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The platform
\nprovided a stage for creating opportunities for local technology innovators and
\nstart-ups. <\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Mobex
\nAfrica Tech Expo was held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra under the theme
\n\u201cE-Finance; Future of Payments and Banking.\u201d<\/p>\n
