{"id":700022,"date":"2019-09-06T11:43:07","date_gmt":"2019-09-06T11:43:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/09\/06\/new-transport-fares-soon\/"},"modified":"2019-09-06T11:43:07","modified_gmt":"2019-09-06T11:43:07","slug":"new-transport-fares-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/09\/06\/new-transport-fares-soon\/","title":{"rendered":"New Transport Fares Soon &#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>A trotro driver\u2019s mate beckons passengers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>THE GHANA Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has hinted of a possible increase in transportation fares following the recent hikes in fuel prices.<\/p>\n<p>Prices<br \/>\nof petroleum products went up on Monday after the National Petroleum Authority<br \/>\n(NPA) directed the Oil Marketing Companies to start applying the revised Energy<br \/>\nSector Levies.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman<br \/>\nof GPRTU, Kwame Kuma noted that the new transport fares will soon be made<br \/>\npublic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have already met with the Transport Minister<br \/>\nabout the increment. We visited the Minister but he was not available, so if he<br \/>\ncomes we are going to meet and make sure that the new prices are released\u2026There<br \/>\nwill definitely be an increment.\u201d He said.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nincrease in the petroleum prices is as a result of the Road Fund Levy, Energy<br \/>\nDebt Recovery Levy, as well as the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy which<br \/>\nhave been increased by about 20 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Transport<br \/>\nfares were last increased by the GPRTU in April 2017 by 15 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nChamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) unsuccessfully petitioned the Speaker of<br \/>\nParliament over the ESLA increments to get him to stop the passage by<br \/>\nlegislators.<\/p>\n<p>COPEC<br \/>\nin its petition said the \u201ccurrent fuel price increase is coming at the wrong<br \/>\ntime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>COPEC<br \/>\nhinted that it will go on a protest if the petition or dialogue fails.<\/p>\n<p>COPEC\u2019s<br \/>\nExecutive Secretary, Duncan Amoah said: \u201cWe<br \/>\nwill resort to some initial dialogue to ensure that whatever he [the Finance<br \/>\nMinister] is proposing, either Members of Parliament will reject it or not<br \/>\nallow it to materialise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if they still insist or push forward, we will not go on a demonstration, we will go on a sleepover.\u201d He added. <\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <strong>Citinewsroom<\/strong> <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A trotro driver\u2019s mate beckons passengers THE GHANA Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has hinted of a possible increase in transportation fares following the recent hikes in fuel prices.
