The Bank of Ghana has directed all Rural and Community Banks (RCBs) to meet their Minimum Capital requirement by February 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bank of Ghana has directed all Rural and Community Banks (RCBs) to meet their Minimum Capital requirement by February 2020.<\/p>\n

The directive was contained in a notice issued by the Central Bank to RCBs, Microfinance Institutions and the general public.<\/p>\n

Signed by BoG\u2019s Secretary, Frances Van-Hein Sackey, the notice indicated that pursuant to Section 28 (1) of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2008 (Act 774), Rural\/Community Banks and Microfinance Institutions which fail to comply with their respective minimum capital by the above date shall be sanctioned.<\/p>\n

\u201cStakeholders, directors, operators of Rural\/Community Banks and Microfinance Institutions are to take note of the above and be guided accordingly, the notice dated August 19, 2019,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

According to the notice, the directive was further to Bank of Ghana notice No. BG\/GOV\/SEC\/2015\/08 dated July 3, 2015, which announced the revision of minimum capital for Rural\/Community Banks and Microfinance Institutions to GH\u00a2 1 million to be complied with by December 31, 2017, and GH\u00a2 2 million to be complied with by June 30, 2018, respectively.<\/p>\n
