\nGhana, has been adjudged\u201cThe best insurance Group\u201d in Ghana at the recently
\nheld 2ndGhana Insurance Awards.<\/p>\n
Two subsidiaries of the GLICO
\nGroup also received awards. GLICO General was adjudged \u201cThe Personal Line
\nInsurer of the Year\u201d, whilst GLICO Healthcare was declared \u201cThe Indigenous
\nInsurer of the year\u2013Private healthcare\u201d.<\/p>\n
The GLICO Group has its genesis
\nas Gemini Life Insurance Company, acronym \u201cGLICO\u201d that started operations in
\nGhana in 1987. With a sustainable business philosophy propounded by its
\nfounder, Mr. Kwame Achampong-Kyei, that is,\u201cto bring insurance to the doorstep
\nof every Ghanaian household\u201d, GLICO in 2003 embarked on expansion of allied
\nservices to offer more value to its policyholders and to grow each service
\noffering\u2019s portfolio.<\/p>\n
In 2003, it birthed now GLICO
\nCapital Ltd to offer investments advice and services to its expanding
\npolicyholders. Around the same time the National HealthInsurance,Act 2003 (Act
\n650)was promulgated and it took advantage of the opportunity to bring quality
\nhealth insurance services to its policyholders by forming now GLICO Healthcare
\nLtd. With long term investments gained from life insurance premiums, GLICO
\nformed now GLICO Properties Ltd in 2006, to take advantage of the appreciating
\nvalue of land and landed properties in Ghanaso as to return to Ghanaians higher
\ninvestment returns on policies at maturity. Then in 2006, the National
\nInsurance Act 2006 (Act 724) was enacted to separate insurance businesses into
\nlife and non-life. GLICO seized the opportunity to form GLICO General Ltd to
\noffer non-life insurance services to its policyholders. And finally, the
\npromulgation of the National Pensions Act2008 (Act 766)\u00a0enabled GLICO to
\nmove its pensions and welfare portfolios to form GLICO Pensions Trustees Ltd in
\n2010.<\/p>\n
Today, the then Gemini Life
\nInsurance Companyis registered as GLICO Life Insurance Ltd focusing only on
\nlife insurance policies. A separate GLICO Group Company has also been
\nregistered to support the growth and expansion of GLICO as a groupin providing
\na one-stop insurance and financial services to Ghanaians whilst adding value to
\neach service offering. One thing that has remained consistent with GLICO
\nthroughout its expansion phases has been its promise of \u201cwe cushion you for
\nlife\u201d that isactualized in its prompt claim payment; a firm foundation on which
\nthe GLICO brand is built.<\/p>\n
Asked what this award means to
\nthe GLICO, the Group Head, Corporate Affairs & Marketing, Nana Efua Rockson
\nexcitedly stated that; \u201cit\u2019s amazing to build a company and a brand that
\ncommands presence. However, maintaining it sustainably requires out-of-box
\nthinking and strategic moves in today\u2019s technologically-driven and
\ncustomer-centric world. We are not sitting on our oars and we will continue to
\noffer value to our clients\u201d. She continued by saying that, \u201cthis award is
\ndedicated to all our customers, partners, stakeholders and to all Gliconians\u201d.<\/p>\n
The GLICO Group Chief Executive
\nOfficer, Mr. Forkuo Kyei, remarked on the news of the award that; \u201cthis is
\nquite opportune because it couldn\u2019t have come at a better time than this. GLICO
\nis restructuring and positioning itself to take advantage of synergy to offer
\nfar better services to Ghanaians. He added that,\u201cthank you to all who made it
\nhappened and to Ghanaians for believing and supporting a home-grown business
\nthroughout three decades and counting\u201d.<\/p>\n
