The R500,000 contribution was received from Bosasa &#8211; a company that has received a number of government contracts that were reportedly awarded irregularly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"43\">The Public Protector has previously found that the president misled parliament. She recommended that the president make a full disclosure to parliament of all campaign donors and that the speaker of the national assembly and the National Prosecuting Authority look into the matter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"33\">Last week, the president faced off against Mkhwebane over a separate report from her office, which found Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan had irregularly approved former SARS deputy commissioner Ivan Pillay&#8217;s early retirement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"43\">The president had written to Mkhwebane, saying that no remedial action would be taken against Gordhan until the outcome of his review process against the report had been concluded and this letter was found to be &#8220;rational and reasonable&#8221; according to Judge Lettie\u00a0Molopa-Sethosa.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/.outer-ad-container.responsive-aans-view-a-container--><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"22\">Mkhwebane, joined by political party the Economic Freedom Fighters, challenged this, saying it amounted to the president avoiding taking action against Gordhan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"89\">Gordhan had\u00a0successfully interdicted Mkhwebane from enforcing remedial action stipulated in another report, which found he had violated the constitution through his involvement in the so-called &#8220;rogue unit&#8221; at SARS. He said that the remedial action would cause him irreparable harm &#8211; an assertion which Judge Sulet Potterill agreed on, granting Gordhan an interdict, saying that the suspension would not weaken the public protector&#8217;s office. The judge added that Ramaphosa could not be criticised for waiting for the court&#8217;s decision on Gordhan, before implementing the remedial action stipulated by Mkhwebane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"6\">The matter remains before the courts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
