{"id":675959,"date":"2019-08-08T14:31:47","date_gmt":"2019-08-08T14:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"<br><div>\n\n<img class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/00501781:164f818dad7eab27ea8d4124b4c8e444:arc614x376:w770:us1.png\"\/>\n<div class=\"caption-and-credit clearfix\">\n  \n  <p>War vets picket Emmerson Mnangagwa offi"},"modified":"2019-08-08T14:31:47","modified_gmt":"2019-08-08T14:31:47","slug":"zimbabwe-govt-has-abandoned-war-veterans-zanu-pf-mp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/08\/08\/zimbabwe-govt-has-abandoned-war-veterans-zanu-pf-mp\/","title":{"rendered":"Zimbabwe: Govt Has Abandoned War Veterans &#8211; Zanu-PF MP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/00501781:164f818dad7eab27ea8d4124b4c8e444:arc614x376:w770:us1.png\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"caption-and-credit clearfix\">\n<p>War vets picket Emmerson Mnangagwa office over unpaid pensions (file photo).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/.caption-and-credit--><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"44\">President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s administration has abandoned veterans of the country\u2019s liberation struggle and needs to copy from other countries that have social safety nets to carters for those that sacrificed their lives for their nations, Zanu PF Buhera South lawmaker Joseph Chinotimba has said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"31\">Contributing to debate of Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube\u2019s mid-year fiscal policy review and supplementary budget, Chinotimba demanded that Treasury issues a blanket order allowing war veterans to import vehicles duty free.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"14\">\u201cNothing has been done to improve the lives of the war veterans,\u201d said Chinotimba.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"26\">Former President Robert Mugabe\u2019s run-in with the former fighters signaled the beginning of the end of his rule and Mnangagwa might be treading on thin ice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"25\">Chinotimba gave examples of countries in Africa and beyond that have standing social safety nets to cater for the welfare of veterans of different wars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"48\">\u201cI want the Finance Minister to include it in his mid-year budget that the war veterans should be allowed to buy vehicles duty free, even in America, Namibia and South Africa war veterans are a priorities and are allowed certain benefits. Our war veterans are suffering,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/.outer-ad-container.responsive-aans-view-a-container--><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"37\">He added: \u201cI want to thank Minister of Finance for reinstating the duty free for those people with disabilities but we also have war veterans who are disabled they must be allowed to import cars duty free.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"23\">The Zanu PF lawmaker said the former fighter sacrificed everything for Ncube and others to be able to work in a free society.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"56\">\u201cFor you to be there, it is because of the war veterans. Some of them are blind while others lost life as well as limbs to liberate us.
