ADB
\nBank recently provided a loan facility of GH\u00a250 million to the National Food
\nBuffer Stock Company (NAFCO) to purchase grains for onward delivery to
\ngovernment senior high schools, as well as other state institutions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The
\nloan is also to enable NAFCO mop up excess produce from farmers to reduce
\npost-harvest losses resulting from poor storage. <\/p>\n

The
\namount is the first tranche of about GH\u00a2200 million earmarked by the bank to
\nsupport actors in the agricultural value chain in the country. <\/p>\n

Last
\nyear, ADB provided the company with a loan of GH\u00a220 million to purchase grains
\nfrom farmers under the PFJ programme.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Managing Director of ADB, Dr John Kofi Mensah, explained that this year the amount was increased because \u201cNAFCO performed creditably and paid up the facility on schedule\u201d.<\/p>\n
