Ecobank Ghana and its partners have provided support for some 16 medical students to go study abroad as part of the banks annual Sponsored Medical Students Exchange Program. <\/p>\n

The 16 were selected
\nfrom the four public universities in the country \u2013 University of Ghana, Cape
\nCoast University, University of Development Studies and the Kwame Nkrumah
\nUniversity of Science and Technology. <\/p>\n

Each of the
\nbeneficiaries walked away with US$1,000 each from Ecobank, Woodin Summer Jackets
\nfrom Woodin, over \u20ac72,000 of insurance cover from
\nOldMutual Life Assurance and 30 per cent discount on Emirates tickets to their
\nfinal destination. <\/p>\n

The
\ncountries they are travelling to include Germany, USA, France, South Africa,
\nPolland, and Latvia.<\/p>\n

Managing
\nDirector of Ecobank Ghana, Dan Sackey noted that the bank has had a long
\nstanding relationship with medical students and to date, they have sponsored
\nover 120 students to go study abroad. <\/p>\n

He noted
\nthat sponsorship has been expanding over the years, saying that last year the
\npackage benefitted students from only KNUST and UG, but this year they have
\nincluded UCC and UDS.<\/p>\n

Dan Sackey
\nsaid Ecobank is aware of the challenges in the health sector and therefore
\nbelieve that giving more medical professionals the global exposure will
\nposition them well to bridge in the gabs in the sector. <\/p>\n

He therefore
\ncharged the students to take the opportunity seriously and remember that the
\nmedical practice is a vocation to serve more than anything else, so they will
\nbecome committed to humanity. <\/p>\n

Head of
\nBancassurance at OldMutual, Othniel Kamassah said the total package for the 16
\nstudents is almost one million euros, comprising of \u20ac30,000 medical expenses and hospitalization abroad, \u20ac30,000 emergency medical evacuation, \u20ac300
\nemergency dental expenses, one ticket for family visitor plus \u20ac600 insurance
\ncoverage for that person.<\/p>\n

Others include \u20ac6,600 for the
\nrepatriation of the policy holder\u2019s mortal remains in case of death, \u20ac3,000
\ncoverage for accident death in public transport abroad, \u20ac3,000 for permanent
\ntotal disability and a percentage of the sum assured for permanent disability.<\/p>\n

Delali Benti-Enchill is the Head of
\nReady to Wear at Woodin, and she said they are keen on supporting youth education
\nand they will continue to support any effort at providing young persons with
\nskills for life. <\/p>\n

The Federation of Medical Students
\nAssociation expressed their gratitude to Ecobank and its partners for the kind
\ngestures and promised to make the best of the opportunity.<\/p>\n

A representative of Ghana Medical Association also thanked Ecobank and asked for the support to be expanded to benefit more students to bridge the growing gap in the doctor-patient ratio.\u00a0<\/p>\n
