About 82.7 percent of 81 Liquefied Petroleum Gas
\n(LPG) stations in the central region have been labelled as high-risk by the
\nNational Petroleum Authority (NPA), according to the Central Regional Minister,
\nMr. Kwamena Duncan.<\/p>\n

The Minister who made the disclosure said per
\ninformation available to him, a risk assessment exercise of all LPG retail
\noutlets across the region revealed that 67 out of 81 were found to pose
\nhigh-risk to lives and property in the region.<\/p>\n

He said that at a town hall meeting organised by the
\nNPA on the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) of LPG distribution in Cape Coast
\nin the Central region yesterday. The event dubbed; \u201cCRM: creating more jobs,
\nsecuring our future\u201d was part of nationwide exercise to engage members of the
\npublic about the policy and their contributions towards the successful
\nimplementation of the policy which is geared towards addressing the needs of
\nthe consumer.<\/p>\n

He said per assurances given, all the high risk
\nstations would have their retail outlets converted into cylinder distribution
\ncentres under the CRM \u201cwhile the low risk stations will be considered as auto
\ngas refilling only.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe CRM revolves around you the LPG marketers and
\ndistributors; so, when we hear concerns about job-losses, obviously, the facts
\ndo not support that conclusion\u201d he expressed.<\/p>\n

Mr Duncan assured that government was mindful of the
\nlocal content law which \u201cstipulates that a venture like this should be fully
\nreserved for Ghanaian equity participation; non-Ghanaians will not be allowed
\nto operate under the model.\u201d<\/p>\n

Addressing the participants, Mr. Samuel Asare
\nBediako, Coordinator of Unified Petroleum Price Fund at NPA who represented the
\nChief Executive reiterated over four thousand five hundred direct jobs would be
\ncreated when the CRM takes off.<\/p>\n

He said the purpose of the CRM was aimed at
\nproviding direction for marketing and distribution of LPG in a safe and
\nefficient manner, to facilitate an increase in access to LPG nationwide.<\/p>\n

He said it was also to ensure safety and good
\nenvironmental practices in the production, marketing and consumption LPG and
\n\u201censure the sustainability of supply and local content and participation in the
\nLPG sub-sector in compliance with the Downstream Local Content Policy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The President of Central Regional House of Chiefs and Omanhene of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XII called on the populace to support the new policy and assured the Chief\u2019s in the region continuous support to see to its full implementation.<\/p>\n
