{"id":655118,"date":"2019-07-12T11:56:25","date_gmt":"2019-07-12T11:56:25","guid":{"rendered":"<br><div>\n\t\t\n<p><strong>Sammy Gyamfi<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An Accra High Court has ordered lawyers for Minister\nof Education, Martin Opoku Prempeh aka Napo to serve the Communications office\nof the opposition NDC,\nSammy Gyamfi through substituted service.<\/p"},"modified":"2019-07-12T11:56:25","modified_gmt":"2019-07-12T11:56:25","slug":"napo-secures-order-against-sammy-gyamfi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/07\/12\/napo-secures-order-against-sammy-gyamfi\/","title":{"rendered":"Napo Secures Order Against Sammy Gyamfi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Sammy Gyamfi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An Accra High Court has ordered lawyers for Minister<br \/>\nof Education, Martin Opoku Prempeh aka Napo to serve the Communications office<br \/>\nof the opposition NDC,<br \/>\nSammy Gyamfi through substituted service.<\/p>\n<p>According<br \/>\nto the court, the plaintiff can go ahead and publish his defamation suit<br \/>\nagainst the defendant in the Daily Graphic newspaper as well post it on the<br \/>\nnotice board of the Accra High Courts.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\norder follows an application by the lawyer for Dr. Prempeh for an order for<br \/>\nsubstituted service after the NDC communications officer was allegedly swerving<br \/>\nbailiffs to avoid being served.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Prempeh, who doubles as Member of Parliament (MP)<br \/>\nfor Manhyia South, dragged Sammy Gyamfi, to court for defamation.<\/p>\n<p>In his statement of claim, he averred that Sammy<br \/>\nGyamfi had greatly injured his positive image by falsely linking him to one<br \/>\nSeidu Yakubu, aka \u2018Nba\u2019, the alleged ringleader in the kidnapping of two<br \/>\nCanadian girls in Kumasi recently.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyers said the defendant\u2019s statement had dented<br \/>\nNapo\u2019s image both in Ghana and abroad, considering the fact that the said<br \/>\nstatement was widely captured in the media and other electronic platforms.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said over his entire public and private<br \/>\nlife, Napo has led a decent lifestyle worthy of emulation and so Sammy Gyamfi<br \/>\nhad no justification to link him with miscreants to dent his image.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Sammy Gyamfi, by his statement,<br \/>\nintentionally portrayed Napo as a person who supports thuggery, kidnapping and<br \/>\nother illegal acts without any proof.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Napo\u2019s suit prayed the court to restrain Sammy<br \/>\nGyamfi and his agents from further making or publishing defamatory words<br \/>\nagainst him.<\/p>\n<p>They also urged the court to order Sammy Gyamfi to<br \/>\napologize and retract the defamatory statement with the same prominence the<br \/>\ndefamatory words received within seven days after the judgment.<\/p>\n<p>Again, the plaintiff wants the court to fine Sammy<br \/>\nGyamfi GH\u00a21 million for allegedly making defamatory statements about him.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the huge cash fine, the writ of summons<br \/>\nfiled on June 25 by Sarkodie Baffuor Awuah &amp; Partners, said Dr. Prempeh had<br \/>\nasked the court to order Sammy Gyamfi to retract and apologize for the<br \/>\ndefamatory statement within seven days after the judgement.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sammy Gyamfi An Accra High Court has ordered lawyers for Minister of Education, Martin Opoku Prempeh aka Napo to serve the Communications office of the opposition NDC, Sammy Gyamfi through substituted service.
