Kodua Frimpong \u2013 YEA Boss<\/strong><\/p>\nThe Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has
\nintroduced new innovative, employable and self-sustaining programmes aimed at
\nredirecting the narrative of the agency, and serving as a fortune for
\nbeneficiaries and a panacea to all existing challenges faced by the
\nbeneficiaries of the agency.<\/p>\n
The Director of Corporate Affairs at
\nYEA, Emmanuel Kwasi Afriyie, in a statement, said, \u201cThese programmes \u2013 Job Centre,
\nArtisan Directory and the Regional and District Agric-based Flagship projects \u2013
\nhave been developed after thorough review and value for money audit of the
\nexisting modular programmes which the agency has been engulfed in during the
\npast 12 years of existence.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe unemployment situation in the
\ncountry necessitated stopgap measures that will train and give hands-on
\nexperience to young people and make them academically and practically ready for
\nthe job market. The agency over the period has done very well in this direction
\nby implementing community health workers module, community protection
\nassistants module, prisons service assistants module, fire service assistants module,
\ncommunity education teaching assistants module, among others,\u201d the statement
\nindicated.<\/p>\n
However, it noted that a major
\nchallenge identified after the review was the fate of beneficiaries who exit
\nthe modules. It explained that even though some get absorbed by mother
\ninstitutions, the figures are woefully inadequate leading to a bulk majority of
\nthem finding their way back unto other modules, and the rest going back into
\nthe labour market unemployed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cExisting data also suggests that
\nnotwithstanding the immense contribution of these traditional modules, there is
\nstill a lot that can be done to facilitate sustainable employment for young
\npeople. This can be achieved through skills development, mechanised agriculture
\nand extensive partnerships with both the public and private sectors,\u201d it said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is the need for an end to the
\nseeming recycling of unemployment. The agency has, therefore, put forward and
\nwill within the next month launch its three new initiatives \u2013 the Job Centre, Artisan
\nDirectory and the Regional and District Flagship programmes. The Job Centre is
\na platform (online and physical) that will connect job seekers to employers of
\nall fields within the public and private sectors across the country. It will
\ncapture all formal and informal employers as well as graduate and non-graduate
\njob seekers,\u201d it explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe platform comes with three main
\ncomponents:\u00a0Online portal \u2013 \u00a0 this is a virtual platform that allows
\njob seekers to search and apply for jobs advertised by employers while
\nemployers on the other hand enjoy the convenience of advertising vacancies
\nonline and placing a request to the Job Centre for the supply of goal-oriented personnel.<\/p>\n
Walk-in Centres \u2013 these are localized
\noffices across all districts in the country designated to support and guide job
\nseekers and employers alike. It is a face-to-face centre where advisory,
\ncounselling and mentoring services will be provided.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Training Hub \u2013 will be temporal
\ncentres set up to provide quality training, skills upgrade and matching to give
\njob seekers a head start in the job market. Second is the Artisan Directory.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur third self-sustainable programme is the Regional and District Flagship programme. This project is premised on the peculiar agro-business needs of the various districts across the country. Our district offices are being supported with funds to venture into viable agricultural projects that will thrive within their communities while providing employment for its people,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
