The Social Security National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) in Bolgatanga has
\nembarked on an exercise to prosecute defaulters to reduce indebtedness to the
\ntrust.<\/p>\n

The exercise would
\nprosecute offenders for non compliance including non-registration of employers
\nand employees, non-submission of contributions reports and declaration of
\nsalaries.<\/p>\n

Mr Jose Abugre, Area
\nManager for the Northern Sector of the Trust disclosed this in an interview
\nwith the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bolgatanga, and said the mass prosecution
\nexercise was to reduce employer indebtedness to the trust. <\/p>\n

He urged employers
\nowing the trust to visit the nearest SSNIT offices to enable management to help
\naddress their grievances to avoid legal action. <\/p>\n

Mr Abugre said
\nemployers should endeavour to comply with the law and avoid prosecution.<\/p>\n

He said an
\ninspection has been done to fit in the mass prosecution, scheduled to end in
\nthe second week of July this year.<\/p>\n

He further said the
\nexercise was expected to reduce indebtedness which is in line with the
\nobjectives of the trust<\/p>\n

The Head of
\nProsecution at the Bolgatanga branch of the Trust, Mr Moses Dibboro, hinted
\nthat the trust had rolled out some programme including mass inspection of
\nbusiness premises.<\/p>\n

He said the purpose
\nof the exercise was to alert employers who were not compliant with laws of the
\ntrust to reconcile their books to know the state of their indebtedness and be
\nadvised to make payments where necessary.<\/p>\n

Mr Dibboro said it was not in the interest of the trust to punish anyone, and said it was to enforce the law to keep the trust growing.<\/p>\n
