Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah, Consultant for Coalition of Economic Association (CEA), Ghana, has advised the Akufo-Addo led government to scrap off the introduction of the luxury vehicle tax law.<\/p>\n

Describing the law as a ‘bogus’ one, he explained it is a vindictive law against some people perceived to be using four-wheel drive cars.<\/p>\n

\u201c…what we are telling the government is that it is a bogus law and a bogus tax, therefore, the government should scrap it off”.<\/p>\n

The Coalition of Economic Association added that they are willing to sit down with the government to design any other alternative sources of taxes, this is because the tax is collapsing private businesses. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe luxury tax is collapsing a lot of businesses \u2013 importers of vehicles, importers of engines or spare parts, including drivers \u2013 meanwhile the government is supposed to help businesses grow then make money by taxing them. <\/p>\n

But that is not what is happening, this levy is destroying our business, they didn\u2019t do broad consultation before implementing and all attempts to get them to listen to us failed,\u201d he lamented<\/p>\n

Luxury vehicle tax ill-conceived, government must scrap it \u2013 Mahama<\/b><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the former president, John Dramani Mahama, has said his administration will scrap the luxury vehicle tax introduced by the Akufo-Addo government if it wins election 2020.<\/p>\n

Describing the levy as an ill-conceived one, he said its introduction has overburdened the ordinary commercial driver whose vehicle possesses the white number plate.<\/p>\n

He argued that the amount of revenue raised so far is not even enough for the tax to be sustained.<\/p>\n
