They were arrested during a rescue operation at Ayisikrom, also in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n<p>The three were charged with robbery, kidnapping, assault and causing unlawful damage at the court presided over by Ms Mariam Affoh.<\/p>\n<p>All three pleaded not guilty to the charges, but the court declined a plea for bail from their lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>The two kidnapped persons, Eric Amponsah, 34, son of the traditional priest, and his driver, 26-year-old Enoch Addo, were rescued on Sunday, June 23, 2019, during a special police operation.<\/p>\n<p><b>Facts<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Presenting the facts of the matter, the prosecutor, a State Attorney, Mr Emmanuel Oppare Wiredu, said the accused persons attacked, assaulted, robbed and kidnapped the two persons from the same household on June 22, 2019 at Okorase, near Koforidua.<\/p>\n<p>He said the accused entered the house of the traditional priest, Mr Emmanuel Sarpong, wielding machetes, axes and other unfamiliar offensive weapons on board an H10O mini-bus and attacked the household.<\/p>\n<p>The accused persons, he narrated, broke into the complainant\u2019s room and made away with his 42-inch flat screen television set worth GH\u00a21,800, three sound speakers valued at GH\u00a21,500 and one sound power amplifier valued GH\u00a2800.<\/p>\n<p>He said the suspects damaged the sliding glass door and window of the residence and two wooden doors all valued at GH\u00a23,550.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor added that the accused also made away with an amount of GH\u00a214,000 and the complainant\u2019s green and yellow coloured taxicab with registration number ER 418 -16.<\/p>\n<p><b>Demand<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Mr Oppare Wiredu said the accused then demanded a ransom of GH\u00a240,000 from the complainant for the release of the victims.<\/p>\n<p>The accused forced one of the victims, Enoch Addo, to call his brother to send money for his release.<\/p>\n<p>The said brother sent GH\u00a2700 but the accused failed to release Addo after receiving the money.<\/p>\n<p>He said the accused renewed the demand for more ransom from the complainant but reduced it to GH\u00a237,000.<\/p>\n<p><b>Background<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Eastern Regional Police Command, the Counter Terrorism Unit and residents of Ayisikrom arrested three out of the eight suspected criminals at Ayisikrom on June 23, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Police is still on a manhunt for the remaining six kidnappers who managed to escape into the forest.<\/p>\n<div class=\"related_articles\" style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<div style=\"clear: both; font-size: 90%; background-color: #eeeaea; padding: 5px; margin-top: 10px;\">\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border:0; padding:0\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanamma.com\/2019\/06\/1561726190_843_56523644.jpg\" style=\"padding-right:2px;\" \/><\/td>\n<td style=\"border:0; padding:0;width:100%; vertical-align:middle; font-size:11px;\">For more news go to: www.graphic.com.gh<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>Related Articles:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Comments:<\/strong><br \/>This article has no comments yet, be the first to comment\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General News of Friday, 28 June 2019 Source: Graphic.com.gh 2019-06-28 The accused were charged with robbery, kidnapping, assault and causing unlawful damage The three persons accused of robbery, assault and kidnapping of the son of a fetish priest and his taxi driver at Okorase, near Koforidua in the Eastern Region, have been remanded in prison [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":646637,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[908,2260,396,2259,2070,282],"class_list":["post-646636","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-local-news","tag-bail","tag-denied","tag-general","tag-kidnappers","tag-news","tag-suspected"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
