\u2018Black Panther\u2019 star Chadwick Boseman will produce and star as Japan\u2019s first African samurai in the historical film, \u2018Yasuke\u2019.<\/p>\n

News Agency of Nigeria reports that Boseman gained global recognition as T\u2019Challa in the Marvel flick and is known for portraying strong, iconic black characters in films.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the movie, Boseman said, \u201cThe legend of Yasuke is one of history\u2019s best-kept secrets, the only person of non-Asian origin to become a samurai.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not just an action movie, that\u2019s a cultural event, an exchange, and I am excited to be part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to legends, in the 1500s, a man of African descent was accepted as the first-ever black Samurai.<\/p>\n

Dubbed \u201cYasuke\u201d by the Japanese warlord, Oda Nobunaga, the soon-to-be-iconic samurai fought for Nobunaga\u2019s army from 1581-1582.<\/p>\n

The specifics of Yasuke\u2019s origin are unclear as according to various write-ups, he could have been from Mozambique, Angola or Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

He quickly became Nobunaga\u2019s chief warrior and personal bodyguard before officially becoming a Samurai in 1581.<\/p>\n

NAN reports that the screenplay will be written by \u2018Narcos\u2019 co-creator Doug Miro and will be produced by Erik Feig\u2019s recently unveiled company, Picturestart.<\/p>\n

Michael De Luca and his De Luca Productions company, Stephen L\u2019Heureux and his Solipsist banner, and Boseman and Logan Coles\u2019 Xception Content will co-produce.<\/p>\n

Apart from being the titular character in \u2018Black Panther\u2019, Boseman has starred as Jackie Robinson in \u201842\u2032, James Brown in \u2018Get On Up\u2019 and Thurgood Marshall in \u2018Marshall\u2019.<\/p>\n

He will next star in and produce STX\u2019s actioner \u201821 Bridges\u2019, directed by Brian Kirk and produced by the Russo Brothers where he plays a detective hunting a pair of cop killers.<\/p>\n
