Box office-busting \u201cAvengers: Endgame\u201d dominated the MTV Movie and TV Awards Monday, as \u201cCaptain Marvel\u201d star Brie Larsen led tributes to real-life heroines by ceding the spotlight to her stunt doubles.<\/p>\n

\u201cEndgame,\u201d the second-highest grossing film of all time, picked up the best movie award, as well as the best hero for Robert Downey Jr\u2019s Iron Man and best villain for Josh Brolin as Thanos.<\/p>\n

Oscar-winner Larsen added to the superheroes\u2019 haul by picking up the best fight award, praising her stunt workers as the \u201cliving embodiment of Captain Marvel\u201d as she brought them up on stage.<\/p>\n

Joanna Bennett and Renae Moneymaker, who also trained Larsen for the first female-led Marvel Studios\/Disney superhero film, said it was an \u201chonour\u201d to work on the film and \u201cbe a part of bringing such a strong female character to life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wide-Ranging awards show also paid tribute to women beyond Hollywood such as trailblazing Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the subject of documentary \u201cRBG\u201d, who won a new category for the best real-life hero.<\/p>\n

And in the evening\u2019s most poignant moment, victims of sexual abuse were honoured by the producers of \u201cSurviving R. Kelly,\u201d which won the best documentary.<\/p>\n

\u201cSurvivors walked through the fire and then stood again to tell this story,\u201d said Lifetime network executive Brie Miranda Bryant.<\/p>\n

The docu-series has led Chicago prosecutors to publicly seek out potential victims of R&B star Kelly, who has pleaded not guilty to felony sex crime charges.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t just a trophy to us because this really speaks to the important cultural impact that this generated from this documentary,\u201d Bryant added.<\/p>\n

Newcomer Noah Centineo was the night\u2019s biggest individual winner, scooping awards for breakthrough performance and best kiss alongside Lana Condor for Netflix teen romance film \u201cTo All The Boys I\u2019ve Loved Before.\u201d<\/p>\n

But it was a disappointing night for \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d, which won the best show but lost out in three other categories.<\/p>\n

The epic fantasy\u2019s final season was widely panned by critics and audiences.<\/p>\n

The MTV Movie and TV Awards have been taking a sideways look at Hollywood since 1992, honouring films and their actors with \u201cgolden popcorn\u201d statuettes.<\/p>\n

The nominees are decided by producers and MTV executives, while the winners are chosen by the public, who vote online.<\/p>\n

As a result, the awards have historically recognized commercial favourites, in contrast to the Oscars and other events based on critical or industry acclaim.<\/p>\n

This year it added off-beat new categories for \u201cmost meme-able moment\u201d and \u201creality royalty.\u201d<\/p>\n

It also gave non-competitive awards to Dwayne \u201cThe Rock\u201d Johnson and Jada Pinkett Smith.<\/p>\n

For the second year running, the show was pre-recorded on Saturday in a cavernous hangar at Santa Monica Airport in southern California.<\/p>\n
