{"id":611609,"date":"2019-04-30T08:10:21","date_gmt":"2019-04-30T08:10:21","guid":{"rendered":"<br><div>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">General News of Tuesday, 30 April 2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>Mynewsgh.com<\/p>\n2019-04-30\n\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghana-mma.com\/2019\/03\/52039072."},"modified":"2019-04-30T08:10:21","modified_gmt":"2019-04-30T08:10:21","slug":"shady-deals-at-forestry-commission-as-staff-receive-bribes-into-private-accounts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/04\/30\/shady-deals-at-forestry-commission-as-staff-receive-bribes-into-private-accounts\/","title":{"rendered":"Shady deals at Forestry Commission as staff receive bribes into private accounts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">General News of Tuesday, 30 April 2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>Mynewsgh.com<\/p>\n<p>2019-04-30<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanamma.com\/2019\/03\/52039072.295.jpg\" alt=\"Sir John NPP\" title=\"Sir John NPP\" width=\"295\" height=\"221\" \/><span class=\"image_caption\"><span>CEO of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"clear:right\">MyNewsGh.com has uncovered some shady deals at the Forestry Commission as some staff have been caught pants down receiving bribes into their private accounts<\/p>\n<p>Some lumber traders in the country who blew the cover of the cartel are not too happy with the kind of treatment being meted out to them by some officials of the Forestry Commission who are consistently demanding for bribes suffocating their businesses.<\/p>\n<p>They also allege extortion of monies by Forestry Commission officials who in extreme cases threaten to seize their wood if they fail to pay the demanded bribes even though they have the requisite documents to cart wood to some specific areas for export.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter paying all our duties as required by the government, they ordered our trucks to be seized until we parted with a whopping GH\u00a215,000 into a GCB bank account number 1361010015935 bearing the name Ebenezer Bekoe\u201d  one victim alleged.<\/p>\n<p>She suspects that workers at the Forestry Commission have printed their own receipt books for dubious dealings and authorities must intervene before the matter gets out of hand<\/p>\n<p>A copy of the pay in slip in possession of MyNewsGh.com indicates a payment amount of GH\u00a28000 into the Kisseman branch of the GCB bank dated April 17, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy are they duping us for doing legitimate business\u201d, the angry business woman quizzed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we have the means, we would have sued them in court\u201d she threatened.<\/p>\n<p>The business woman who spoke on grounds of strict anonymity expressed grave worry over dealings of the Forestry Commission staff on the highways indicating it is impacting negatively on their business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe high cost of doing business is already frustrating while the bribe and penalties been paid is making business unbearable.
