The First Deputy Minority Chief Whip in Parliament Ibrahim Ahmed has accused President Akufo-Addo of influencing the electoral commission to create some 25 new constituencies ahead of the 2020 elections.<\/p>\n

He said the move to give the governing New Patriotic Party to win more seats as their stronghold will benefit more from the intended regions.<\/p>\n

He said the Ashanti region will obtain 17 out of the new regions to be created.<\/p>\n

The Asawase constituency in the region, which is being occupied by the Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), would be split into new constituencies, he hinted.<\/p>\n

The remaining 12 would be distributed to other regions, including the newly created six regions for the 2020 elections.<\/p>\n

The Bimbila Constituency in the Northern which is currently held by Dominic Aduna Nitiwul, Minister of Defence, would also be divided into two constituencies, Bimbila South and North.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Monday, the Banda MP said the Parliament House cannot accommodate the new numbers.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore 2018, when the issue about Charlotte Osei became topical, I indicated clearly that the faceless people who asked for her to leave will make some demands. Mr. President has an agenda against the NDC and has asked the EC to create new and additional 25 constituencies to disadvantage others.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a plan for a new Parliamentary chamber to be built and has been budgeted for but for now, where will the extra 25 MPs sit when new constituencies are created. Very soon, we\u2019ll be told that citizens have petitioned and have asked for the creation of new constituencies and so it must happen. We are all in this country, we\u2019ll see what happens,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
