Veteran journalist Abdul Kweku Baako has described as mission impossible, a promise by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to bring back deported Chinese illegal miner Aisha Huang to face justice in Ghana.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a worthless cause\u201d, Kweku Baako said on JoyNews news analysis show Newsfile Saturday.<\/p>\n

Aisha Huang after years of impunity was arrested in May 2017 and deported in December 2017 after the state discontinued prosecution.<\/p>\n

Public discontent over the failure to prosecute followed but died down until Senior minister resurrected the controversy in April 2019 during a government interaction with Ghanaians in the US.<\/p>\n

In response to a question over the failure to prosecute the infamous Chinese \u2018galamsey queen\u2019, Yaw Osafo Maafo discounted the importance of seeking justice and directed attention to the benefit of Ghana-China relations as seen in a $2bn deal to provide much-needed infrastructure.<\/p>\n

His viral comment has been roundly condemned by leading politicians, civil society groups and Ghanaians as gauged on social media. Made on April 14, 2019, the comment has remained topical two weeks running.<\/p>\n

The NDC has not failed to put a knife in, assessing the minister\u2019s comment as a government posture towards the Chinese government and not merely a personal view.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can be reasonably deduced from the Senior Minister’s comments that at the centre of Ghana\u2019s bilateral relations with China is an obscene willingness on the part of the Akufo-Addo government to condone plain criminality and flagrant disregard for the laws of our country in exchange for money, an \u201cappalled\u201d NDC has castigated.<\/p>\n

Taking the issue a step further, Minority spokesperson on Foreign Affairs Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced on Newsfile, that \u201cthe future NDC government will trigger extradition processes for Aisha Huang to be brought back, face our laws and be prosecuted.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said he had the permission of the party and its 2020 flagbearer John Mahama.<\/p>\n
