height:90px;\">\n<div class=\"mom-ads-inner\">\n<div class=\"mom-ad\" data-id=\"1236\" style=\"width:728px; height:90px; \">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"appear\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanamma.com\/2019\/04\/Say-yes-to-ads-Banner-728-X-90.jpg\" alt=\"Right Below Featured Image\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Former president John Mahama and other bigwigs in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) such as Nana Ato Dadzie, party general secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and Joyce Bawa Mogtari are at the Accra High Court this morning to witness proceedings in the case involving the party\u2019s chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is in court over statements he allegedly made in a leaked audio tape.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is being represented Abraham Amaliba, Tony Lithur, Dominic Ayine and Edudzi Tamakloe as Counsels.<\/p>\n<p>Ofosu Ampofo is facing charges of Conspiracy to cause harm and assault against a public officer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-504898\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanamma.com\/2019\/04\/Ofosu-Ampofo-court-4-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Kwaku Boahen, Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC, who is facing the same charges is expected to appear before the Commercial High Court later in the day.<\/p>\n<p>The Police insist that some of Ofosu Ampofo\u2019s comments have implications on national security.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ofosu Ampofo first honoured an invitation by the CID in March over the matter and insisted that the tape was doctored and not his voice.<\/p>\n<p>He was granted bail of GHc 40,000 with two sureties after his arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Although he maintained that a meeting was convened at the party\u2019s office after the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, he said the utterances attributed to him were not a true representation of what transpired.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ofosu Ampofo was invited after he was heard in a <strong>leaked audio recording<\/strong> outlining plans to organise groups to battle groups affiliated with the governing New Patriotic Party ahead of the 2020 elections.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-504896\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanamma.com\/2019\/04\/Ofosu-Ampofo-court-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>His plans also included verbal attacks on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, and the Chairperson of the Peace Council, Prof. Emmanuel Asante.<\/p>\n<p>The NDC chairman said his approach to the election was going to be different and said there were plans for \u201ccovert and overt operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NDC\u2019s first response to the leaks was to say its offices <strong>were bugged.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi said: \u201cwe know the government is engaged in illegal espionage activities in this country;
