Ex-workers of defunct UT and Capital Banks who allegedly had their contracts terminated by GCB Bank for not possessing the minimum qualification required to work with the bank are hopeful a scheduled meeting between them, the management of GCB Bank, and the Labour Department will be fruitful.<\/p>\n

The ex-workers who maintain that the termination of their contracts was unlawful, petitioned the Labour Department some weeks ago to have the department review and settle their dispute.<\/p>\n

The Daily Graphic reports that the Chief Labour Officer, Eugene Korletey confirmed the invitation of the affected staff and management of GCB Bank over the matter.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi Business News ahead of the scheduled meeting next on Tuesday [April, 162019], Spokesperson for ex-UT\u00a0and\u00a0Capital\u00a0Banks\u00a0workers,\u00a0Raymond\u00a0Addai Danquah said the over 150 sacked workers are seeking fair treatment from GCB Bank.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we wrote to the Labour Commission about three weeks ago. They wrote to GCB and I think they gave us a date that we are supposed to meet. So God willing we\u2019ll be meeting Tuesday at the office of the Chief Labour Officer\u201d, he said adding that \u201cthis is a wrongful termination\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mr. Addai Danquah disclosed that the 2017 badge of workers who were asked to go home are also scheduled to rewrite the two subjects.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo why didn\u2019t they do same for ex-workers of UT and Capital Bank. And as we speak now about 80 people have been employed. They are currently under training at the GCB training school.\u201d<\/p>\n

GCB workers sacked for failing WASSCE<\/strong><\/p>\n

A few months back, it was widely reported in the media that some affected workers have been sacked from the bank because they failed to meet the academic requirements for the WASSCE\/SSCE<\/p>\n

The sacking comes about two years after the Ghana Commercial Bank took over UT and Capital banks.<\/p>\n

GCB was authorized to take over the two UT and Capital Bankss because according to the Central Bank, they had \u201csevere impairment of their capital.\u201d<\/p>\n
