margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">This can be <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"font-family:Garamond,serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">described<\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"> as one of its highest <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">forecasts<\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"> by the IMF for the country, since 2011, when the Fund projected about 17 <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">per cent<\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"> growth rate for Ghana. In 2012 the IMF also projected a 9 <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">per cent<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"> growth rate for Ghana.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><b><span style=\"color:#000000\">IMF\u2019s projection against Ghana\u2019s own projection<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">From the IMF <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"font-family:Garamond,serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">World<\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"> Outlook Report is it clear that Fund is more bullish and optimistic about the growth of the economy than even government. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline\/mjo-article-leaderboard_mid --><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"font-family:Garamond,serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">While government in the 2019 budget is projecting an overall growth of 7 <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">per cent<\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">, the IMF believes Ghana would end the year with higher growth than what the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta has outlined<\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">\u00a0for this year. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"font-family:Garamond,serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">The IMF is the second, international institution after the World Bank that has shown optimism about Ghana\u2019s economy expanding more <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">than\u00a0what<\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">government<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"> has projected.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">But a source close to government has maintained that it might be prudent to be moderate with such macro-economic indicators, rather than being too optimistic.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline\/mjo-article-leaderboard_mid --><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><b><span style=\"color:#000000\">Possible<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><b><span style=\"color:#000000\"> impact of this projection by the IMF on the economy<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">For some, the development could convince investors outside the country about some good returns on their capital, depending on the sectors that would drive this expansion.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">Therefore, this could impact positively on capital attraction to the country in the coming months.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">Others have also maintained that if the economy would expand by more than 1 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">per cent than what government is projecting, then it means those sectors would be driving the growth in job creation.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline\/mjo-article-leaderboard_mid --><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">However, others<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"> have also argued that this is just a forecast and that it could come to pass or it may not be realized at all. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">Some of these analysts have maintained that\u00a0Ghanaians should be moderate about their expectations despite the strong growth forecast.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><b><span style=\"color:#000000\">IMF and Ghana\u2019s inflation outlook for this year<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">The IMF in the World Economic Report is also projecting an end of year inflation outlook of 8.7 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">per cent for 2019 after it projected a 9 per cent inflation for end of <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">2018.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><b><span style=\"color:#000000\">What the report said about the global economy.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#2c2825\">After strong growth in 2017 and early 2018, global economic activity slowed notably in the second half of last year, reflecting a confluence of factors affecting major economies.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#2c2825\">China\u2019s growth declined following a combination of needed regulatory tightening to rein in shadow banking and an increase in trade tensions with the United States. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#2c2825\">The euro area economy lost more momentum than expected as consumer and business confidence weakened and car production in Germany was disrupted by the introduction of new emission standards; investment dropped in Italy as sovereign spreads widened; and external demand, especially from emerging Asia, softened. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in; margin-right:0in; text-align:start\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\"><span style=\"background-color:#ffffff\"><span style=\"color:#2c2825\">Elsewhere, natural disasters hurt activity in Japan.
