The request was ordered to enable GRIDcCo to construct a 330kV overhead line between Kumasi and Aboadze.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">The power outage will last for six consecutive days \u2013 from Thursday, 11<sup>th<\/sup> April \u2013 Wednesday, 17<sup>th<\/sup> April. Lights will be off from 8 AM \u2013 4 PM.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline\/mjo-article-leaderboard_mid-1 --><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">The affected areas include Tarkwa, Bogoso, Asawinso and Juaboso, among others.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">Last Friday, PDS released a list of areas that would experience outages during the weekend. Those areas included Osu, Ablekuma and the Airport City Enclave. The outage lasted roughly 12 hours. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline\/mjo-article-leaderboard_mid-2 --><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">Prior to the outage, PDS explained that the outage was due to the shut down of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant two weeks ago.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">\u201cThe inconvenience that will arise out of this by GRIDCo is deeply regretted,\u201d a PDS statement reads, followed by \u201cPDS&#8230;here to serve.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"notice49\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanamma.com\/2019\/04\/9638685531707_8091623887419.jpeg\" style=\"height:603px; width:500px\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">PDS took over the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in February. Its website has since been shut down. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline\/mjo-article-leaderboard_mid --><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">Meanwhile, many Ghanaians are reeling from the country\u2019s sudden lack of power supply that has left them in darkness for days.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">Kwesi Owuso is a tailor in Kokomlemle whose work has been \u201chugely affected\u201d due to lack of electricity that plagued his community in late March.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">\u201cClients are disappointed. Government must fix this problem,\u201d he told Joy FM.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline\/mjo-article-leaderboard_mid --><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/idCSnW4KMfg\" width=\"560\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">Another resident, Joseph, owns a barbershop and has had resorted to cutting hair manually. \u201cI had to turn away most of my clients. It\u2019s pathetic.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">PDS Accra East Region Public Relations Officer, Isaac Nurris Ainooson, told Joy FM Saturday that what caused the problem was from a faulty joint in the power lines.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline\/mjo-article-leaderboard_mid --><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">He explained that in March and April specifically, extreme heat temps and the corresponding need of electricity overwhelms the power grid, leading to blackouts.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">Ainooson could not confirm whether the power would remain steady, although he did mention that the problem has been temporarily fixed.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">\u201cWe\u2019ve had to throw away food, which comes at a cost. Some of us had to sleep outside because there\u2019s no air coming into the room,\u201d said another Accra resident living in Madina, where the power also cut out for several days. It\u2019s frustrating.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">In 2016, ECG\u2019s Ashanti regional public relations officer, Erasmus Baidoo, told Al Jazeera that one of the major problems with Ghana\u2019s power supply is because \u201cpeople try to cheat the system.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><b><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">Read more: The fundamentals of recent power outages across the country<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">He explained that only approximately 40 percent of ECG (now PDS) customers pay their bills, causing the company to be in millions of dollars in debt.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">&#8220;What about the 60 percent [of customers that don\u2019t pay]?&#8221; Baidoo asked. &#8220;Are you going to arrest everybody?
