Former President John Mahama<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku Constituency Dr Bernard Nii Okoe Boye says the return of John Dramani Mahama as leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is only a \u201cbeautiful\u201d redenomination by the opposition party.<\/p>\n
In his allusion, just like the Cedi underwent redenomination some years back, the immediate past president \u201chas in a beautiful way been redenominated but the value is the same\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cJM is the same JM. The same author of dumsor for four years,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n
The medical practitioner was commenting on the state of the economy on TV3\u2019s New Day on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
He was speaking particularly on the announcement by the Central Bank on the enhanced security features to be introduced on the Cedi from Monday, May 6.<\/p>\n
Comparing the performance of the current government to the previous one, the lawmaker said Mr Mahama was, for instance, not against trainee nurses and teachers when he withdrew their allowances.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe economy was just bad [under him],\u201d he insisted.<\/p>\n
\u2018Depreciated Akufo-Addo\u2019<\/p>\n
But co-panellist and colleague MP Sam George Nartey says he, and by extension Ghanaians, will prefer Mr Mahama to the current president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will prefer a redenominated Mahama to a depreciated Akufo-Addo.\u201d<\/p>\n
He argued that the Ghanaian economy is on a nosedive under the leadership of Mr Akufo-Addo.<\/p>\n
The numerous promises, he stated, have not been fulfilled.<\/p>\n
He insinuated that Ghanaians will go for Mr Mahama in next year\u2019s presidential elections.<\/p>\n
The former president will lead the NDC again in a major election after he beat six others last February to become the party\u2019s flagbearer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
