According to them, the bill, which is yet to be laid in Parliament has severe consequences as far as academic freedom and the autonomy of universities are concerned.<\/p>\n<p>Already Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo has stated that lecturers will go every length to resist attempts by government control academic freedoms by taking absolute control of universities through the councils.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Starr News Minority Spokesperson on Education Peter Nortsu asked for more voice like that of Prof. Gyampo against the draft bill<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe expect the University dons to also make their voice clear, once they do that wisdom will bear on us to do the right thing\u2026.If they [majority] want the good of this country, universities to excel then I expect the majority to also oppose it when it is finally laid,\u201d Mr. Nortsu told Starr News\u2019 Parliamentary correspondent, Ibrahim Alhasan.<\/p>\n<p>He added that lecturers must strongly oppose the bill adding that there is nothing good in the Public Universities Bill.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a style=\"display:none\" rel=\"follow\" href=\"http:\/\/megatheme.ir\/\" title=\"\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633\">\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General News of Monday, 8 April 2019 Source: starrfm.com.gh 2019-04-08 A cross-section of the minority in Parliament The Minority in Parliament has urged lecturers of the various public universities to rise up against the Public Universities Bill aimed at diffusing their autonomy.
