UEW reopens on Monday<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\nThe Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Ernest Azutiga has said the council is open to receive petitions from any of the lecturers who were not reinstated.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday the PRO said, the council is ever ready to review its decision on the matter of reinstatements.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe indication that the council gave was clear that anyone who felt adversely affected by this decision could petition it and they could review their own decision. And I am sure by now the council has shown enough good fate and will be able to look at the issues at hand and when they feel there is a need to review, they would do that, because they have done that before. And I am sure when there is need to do that for the sake of fairness they would do that,\u201d he said.
\nThe Governing Council of UEW announced the reinstatement of three of the dismissed lecturers of the school.<\/p>\n
The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo Markin, had described the reinstatements as a half-baked solution to the leadership crisis at the university.<\/p>\n
According to him, the decision to reinstate only three lecturers goes against the agreement reached to bring back workers sacked as a result of the impasse.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the media in Parliament, the Effutu MP said the Vice Chancellor must be truly committed to peace and reconciliation at the University.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe express advice given was that that category should be fully compensated for wrongful dismissal. The others were suppose to be reinstated and I made a point that the three that were reinstated per the announcement was not in accord with the consensus we all reached. The contention has been that these people were being victimized. If you study each of the cases, you will get to know that someone like Agbeshie, for instance was suspended for merely sending a whatsapp message.\u201d<\/p>\n
Our reinstatement is not enough \u2013 Avea Nsoh<\/b> <\/p>\n
One of the reinstated staff at the school, Prof. Avea Nsoh wants the institution\u2019s Governing Council to reinstate all other dismissed persons as it begins processes to resolve the crisis in the school.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think this is holistic enough and it appears discriminatory. This is not to say that the council has not made an effort to reinstate us. We really appreciate that but we think that is not good enough because we have some of our colleagues still standing out there. There are other demands but the first goodwill is to say that everybody, come back, and then we can move from there,\u201d he said in a Citi News interview.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
