{"id":605214,"date":"2019-04-05T05:58:12","date_gmt":"2019-04-05T05:58:12","guid":{"rendered":"<br><div>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">General News of Friday,  5 April 2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>Graphic.com.gh <\/p>\n2019-04-05\n\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghana-mma.com\/2019\/04\/3237771"},"modified":"2019-04-05T05:58:12","modified_gmt":"2019-04-05T05:58:12","slug":"ghanaian-sentenced-to-5-months-in-prison-in-nigeria-for-stealing-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/04\/05\/ghanaian-sentenced-to-5-months-in-prison-in-nigeria-for-stealing-books\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghanaian sentenced to 5 months in prison in Nigeria for stealing books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">General News of Friday,  5 April 2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>Graphic.com.gh <\/p>\n<p>2019-04-05<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanamma.com\/2019\/04\/32377714.295.jpg\" alt=\"Hammer Court Nca\" title=\"Hammer Court Nca\" width=\"295\" height=\"214\" \/><span class=\"image_caption\"><span>File Photo<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"clear:right\"> A Karmo Grade I Area Court on Thursday sentenced a Ghanaian, Hillary Rogeis, to five months in prison for stealing three sacks of assorted reading books valued at N200,000.<\/p>\n<p>The police charged Rogeis and Ohadaka Linus who lives in Wuse Zone ll Abuja, with joint act and theft.<\/p>\n<p>Rogeis pleaded guilty to stealing but Linus denied committing the alleged offence.<\/p>\n<p>The judge, Inuwa Maiwada, sentenced Rogeis without an option to pay a fine.<\/p>\n<p>Maiwada also ordered the deportation of the convict upon completion of his jail term.<\/p>\n<p>The judge admitted Linus to bail in the sum of N150, 000, with one surety in like sum after he pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.<\/p>\n<p>Maiwada ordered that the surety must be reasonable, reliable, reside within the court jurisdiction and their addresses must be verified by a court staff.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that the surety must present copies of utility bills and identification cards.<\/p>\n<p>Maiwada adjourned the case until May 6, for hearing<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that one Isa, of Karamajiji Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station Abuja, on March 30.<\/p>\n<p>Ukagha said that the complainant reported that Rogeis and Linus, broke into his store and stole books.<\/p>\n<p>She said during police investigation two sacks of the books were recovered from them.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor also alleged that Rogeis was an ex-convict, a notorious criminal.<\/p>\n<p>Ukagha said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a style=\"display:none\" rel=\"follow\" href=\"http:\/\/megatheme.ir\/\" title=\"\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633\">\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General News of Friday, 5 April 2019 Source: Graphic.com.gh 2019-04-05 File Photo A Karmo Grade I Area Court on Thursday sentenced a Ghanaian, Hillary Rogeis, to five months in prison for stealing three sacks of assorted reading books valued at N200,000.
