The Bolgatanga Central Parliamentarian has accused government of borrowing to finance consumption instead of capital investment. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to Isaac Adongo, government\u2019s appetite for loans will cripple the country\u2019s future and saddle generations yet unborn with debt. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Adongo was the keynote speaker at a forum organized by the Coalition for Restoration\u2019 at the Mensvic hotel Thursday on the theme \u201cThe State of Ghanaian economy: Myths and Truth.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In a Town Hall Meeting by the EMT on Wednesday<\/b>, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawunia, accused the NDC of \u201cplunging Ghana into a deep fiscal hole.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis poor state of public finances, weak policy implementation and lack of policy credibility resulted in Ghana requesting an IMF bailout in August 2014. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSince there was no meat on the bone, to fill the deep hole in public finances, the government resorted to some tough fiscal measures; notably the increase in the tax burden on every conceivable consumption item and production activities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to hiring freezes, there were cuts to a number of areas of spending; most notably were cuts to research allowances for lecturers, nursing training, and teacher training allowances,\u201d the Vice President told the audience as they cheered along.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
