{"id":593497,"date":"2019-02-22T08:06:00","date_gmt":"2019-02-22T08:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"<br><div>\n\n        <div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img width=\"640\" height=\"640\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghana-mma.com\/2019\/02\/415752724589_4552978405780.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"bag\" data-pagespeed-url-hash=\"754872690\" onload=\"p"},"modified":"2019-02-22T08:06:00","modified_gmt":"2019-02-22T08:06:00","slug":"woman-wants-leather-handbag-made-out-of-the-skin-on-her-amputated-leg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/02\/22\/woman-wants-leather-handbag-made-out-of-the-skin-on-her-amputated-leg\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman wants leather handbag made out of the skin on her amputated leg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanamma.com\/2019\/02\/415752724589_4552978405780.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"bag\" data-pagespeed-url-hash=\"754872690\" onload=\"pagespeed.CriticalImages.checkImageForCriticality(this);\"\/><\/div>\n<p>A 55-year-old woman from Manchester who suffers from\u00a0a peripheral\u00a0arterial disease and will soon have her left leg surgically removed is looking for a manufacturer willing to make her a leather handbag from the skin on her amputated limb.<\/p>\n<p>Sewport, an online marketplace that connects brands and manufacturers, received the bizarre request from the woman looking to get in touch with a leather processing expert about having a leather handbag made from the skin on the leg she\u2019s about to have surgically removed for medical reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of dismissing her inquiry right off the bat, Sewport experts read the woman\u2019s message and determined that her reasons were valid, so they decided to help her with her search.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, the 55-year old, referred to simply as Joan, cannot come to terms with the idea that her leg will become medical waste after the surgery, so she came up with this unusual plan to at least keep part of it.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1522970855640-1\" data-google-query-id=\"CNaOs5XuzuACFURFGwoduAoIlQ\">\n<p>\u201cI know it is a bit odd and gross, and some might think I\u2019m crazy, but it\u2019s my leg and I can\u2019t bear the thought of it being left to rot somewhere,\u201d Joan wrote in her message to Sewport. \u201cIt\u2019s part of me and I want to keep it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI know it\u2019s gross, but people keep their baby\u2019s umbilici chords and have relative\u2019s ashes on display, so it\u2019s not really that weird if you think about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sewport revealed that Joan decided to get in touch with them after reading another unusual request from a woman who wanted a dress made out of her mother\u2019s hair. She said it had inspired her to do something similar. To show that she was serious about her plan, the 55-year-old woman even emailed Sewport a sketch of the accessory she had in mind,\u00a0a medium-sized bag with a short strap.<\/p>\n<p>Joan says she has about\u00a0\u00a33,000 ($3,900) set aside for this project but adds that if it\u2019s not enough, she can be flexible about the budget.
