THE DOHA FORUM IS HERE AGAIN

From Naana Badua, GNA Correspondent Doha

Doha (Qatar), Dec. 14, GNA – Once again
Doha, the capital of Qatar has opened her doors to the international world by
hosting Experts for the 2019 Doha Forum which is on the theme “Reimagining
Governance in a Multipolar World.”

The Doha Forum is a global platform for
dialogue, bringing together leaders in policy to build innovative and action
driven networks for global peace and development.

Established in 2000, the Forum promotes the
interchange of ideas and discourse, policy-making, and action-oriented
recommendations, because in a world where borders are porous, the challenges
and solutions are also interlinked.

For the 2019 edition of the meeting,
participants will examine the overarching theme of “Reimagining Governance in a
Multipolar World,” where Governance, refers to questions of power, legitimacy,
how public goods are provided in a society, and the mix of public and private
action needed for effective problem-solving, according to Qatar’s Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, the lead organisers of the forum.

Several heads of state from the globe are
attending this year’s forum which is to be opened by the Amir, Sheik Tamin Bin
Hamad Al Thani.

According to Madam Lolwah Al-Khater,
Official spokesperson of Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, the Forum ‘seeks to ensure a
peaceful co-existence for all nations by bringing together think-tanks
including experts and decision makers to brainstorm and make recommendations
for reshaping the global progress from discussions on specific topics including
the following.

Migration, Extremism, Refugees, Global
governance challenges, Regional cooperation mechanisms as well as new global
balances which the over 3,000 participants and about 250 speakers will
deliberate on.

Since 2000, the Doha Forum has served as a
premier platform for global dialogue on critical issues facing the world,
bringing together leaders from governments, civil society, the media, academia,
think tanks, and the private sector to promote the exchange of ideas, mutual
understanding, policy-making, and action-oriented networks.

On 14 June 2019, the UN General Assembly
adopted resolution 73/299 to initiate preparations for a political declaration
on the theme “The future we want, the United Nations we need” for the United
Nations 75th Anniversary Leaders Summit to be held, on 21 September 2020, in
New York.

As these preparations take shape, the Doha
Forum will provide a formidable gathering place, where influential leaders,
policymakers, practitioners, and activists can contribute innovative ideas and
action-driven networks to make global governance fit for purpose in a rapidly
changing world order, says the organisers.
