Former board secretary for Accra Hearts of Oak has questioned the prudence in introducing penalty kicks in our local league when matches end in a stalemate.

According to him there is no positive correlation between scoring penalties in local league matches and doing same at international matches as the stage and pressure is different.

He also alludes to the fact that majority of the players we invite for national team duties are foreign based so how can this help our national teams succeed If it is introduced into our local league.

“Because look there can be difficulties because you train players for penalties and during matches you may take three of them off and what if it’s your three best penalty takers.” he told Kumasi based Akoma Fm.

“Maybe there is a difficulty in training the players to play what kind of pitches do we have.”

“Because whatever you train they will come and execute it in a league match but we must also bear in mind that the pressure during international matches is quite different from a league matches.”

“So how can you say there is going to be a positive correlation between playing penalties when there is a draw in the league and during International matches because we must realize that most of our players in the national team do not even play in the local league.”

“For instance, majority of the Black Meteors player play outside so how does introducing penalties in our league benefit them.”
