Goaso, Dec 02, GNA –
Mr Evans Opoku-Bobie, the Ahafo Regional Minister has underscored the need for
peace to prevail in the region to accelerate its rapid growth.

Making the call at a
stakeholders meeting in Goaso, he urged the Goaso Traditional Council and the
local Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to exercise restraint and
co-exist peacefully to help move the region forward.

Mr Opoku-Bobie, who
is also the Member of Parliament for Asunafo North called on the two parties to
stay away from a disputed parcel of land till a final decision by the Regional
Security Council (RESEC) on the matter.

“Back-down on your
parochial interest and think about the interest of our new region in the name
of development,” Mr Opoku-Bobie admonished the two parties.

The Regional
Minister recounted that following the failure of the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly
to settle a land dispute between the Traditional Council and the GPRTU, he
intervened to help find a lasting solution to the impasse.

Mr Opoku-Bobie said
he therefore convened a stakeholders meeting, which resolved that the two
disputing parties stepped aside for the Municipal Assembly to take over and
develop the land into an office complex.

He intimated that
the Assembly had so far developed a plan for the proposed office complex and
another stakeholders meeting would soon be convened to resolve the matter.

Mr Opoku-Bobie has
consequently charged REGSEC to protect the land and ensure that the disputing
parties did not step on it.
