ADB hosts 2019 best farmers in Ho

Ho, Dec. 02, GNA – The
Agriculture Development Bank (ADB) has held a welcome cocktail for this year’s
best farmers and fishers in Ho ahead of the National Farmers Day celebrations
on Friday.

The cocktail offered
the about 150 award winners the opportunity to interact and network with
industry players to set the tone for the week long celebrations.

The 35th edition
of the National Farmers Day slated for Friday, December 6th in Ho,
Volta Regional capital is on the theme, “enhancing small scale agriculture
towards agribusiness development.”

Dr John Kofi Mensah,
Managing Director, ADB, re-affirmed the Bank’s commitment to give $100,000 to
the 2019 National Best Farmer and reminded the award winners that ADB remained
the only bank “with full commitment” to the growth of their
businesses.

He said ADB had
developed products for players in the agricultural value chain including over
drafts, short, medium and long term loan facilities, guarantees and lease
financing and encouraged farmers and fishers to take advantage of the products.

Dr. Mensah said the
Bank also increased its loan portfolio to the agricultural sector to 50 per
cent of the Bank’s total loan by 2022, attaining 39 per cent in 2019 and asked
farmers and fishers to come for more loans.

Dr. Nurah Gyiele,
Minister of State for Agriculture commended ADB for its continuous support to
the sector and also congratulated the award winners.

Dr. Archibald Yao
Letsa, Volta Regional Minister said the Region was happy to be hosting the
national event, which he said promised to be the best.

Meanwhile, all is
set for the event, to be officially opened by the Vice President Alhaji
Mahamudu Bawumia at the Ho Jubilee Park on Monday, December, 02.

The event will have a week-long agricultural
exhibition and trade fair with regional days from Monday, December
